  • The funniest episode of them all in my opinion.

    10
This is the best episode that I have seen of this show and is it any wonder why? It was completely zany and I never get tired of watching it. This episode also housed my favourite scene of the entire show. Vyvyan's trying to make a submarine out of cardboard boxes and then the hamster bites him and he falls on top of it. I loved watching him beat it to death with a hammer. If you're a fan that just happens to not have seen this episode then wach it!!!!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Goof: When Vyvyan and Rick are arguing about Rick's comic, war and peace, the bottom of Vyvyan's shoes are very dirty. A few shots later the most of the dirt is gone.

    • Revealing : When Jerzei is coming through the door with an axe, you can see the door is paper thin to make it easier to get through. In fact you can see Alexei Sayle being very careful to only chip small bits away because a decent whack with the axe would smash the whole thing down.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Mike: Neil if your head was on strike you couldn't even picket your nose.

    • Mike: Rick, you've been looking out of that window for three hours now!
Rick: Yes, it aren't surprising, is it? Vyvyan put super glue all over the pane!
Vyvyan: Did I? That was a good joke!

    • Vyvyan: I've invented a potion that turns people into axe-wielding homicidal maniacs. It's basically a cure... for not being an axe-wielding homicidal maniac.

    • Rick: I've just seen the most amazing thing in the garden. Neil biffed himself in the face with a frying pan.

    • Neil: Oh well, we'll all probably get drowned or eaten by octopuses then.
      Rick: What?! Phone the police!
      Neil: But they're fascists.
Rick: Well never mind about that now, telephone Vyvyan!
(Vyvyan runs downstairs, he rips the phone out the wall, runs but up to Rick's bedroom)
      Vyvyan: Hello... Ah, it's broken.

    • Mr. Balowski: (Chopping down Neil's bedroom door) Little pigs! Little pigs! Let me in! Boys and girls come out to play on the busy motorway! Let me in! Jerzei wants to play hospital!

  • NOTES (2)

    • This episode has no band playing in the living room.

    • The Radio Times description says: "Disaster looms: in the last few days of a desperate government, riot spreads as the economy collapses and the threat of nuclear conflict grows. Despite this, the BBC screens the final of The Young Ones."

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • The Martial Amp which Neil has in his bedroom is an allusion to The Marshall Amp (possibly the JCM600).

    • Man in Black: (Rik Mayall) Don't blame me, blame the Manpower Services Commission.

In 1974 the responsibility for employment training services transferred from the Secretary of State for Employment to the Manpower Services Commission. It was responsible for ensuring that anyone unemployed had access to work experience through on-the-job training.

    • When Vyvyan hides in the wardrobe, he finds himself in a scene referring to the story 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'.

    • The scene of Mr. Balowski chopping down Neil's bedroom door refers to a scene in the movie 'The Shining'.
