(Brad and Jimmy meet in the Saloon).
Brad: Two whiskeys.
Jimmy: Make mine a sarsaparilla.
Brad: (Smirking) Still drinkin' with the ladies, huh?
Judge Enright: Nobody holding a gun on your is a friend.
Clara: It's about a man who get's shipwrecked on an island in the middle of the ocean. He thinks its deserted but there are cannibals and pirates...
Jimmy: It sounds exciting.
Clara: It's full of adventure. Robinson Caruso.
Jimmy: (Holds it and kind of looks at it. Shyly:) Loks like a real nice book, Clara, but I'm not too sure...
Clara: I know, you can't read. There's no shame in that.
Jimmy: So, why'd you give it to me?
Clara: Cause I'm gonna teach you. We'll read a little of this every day, and before you know it, you'll be readin' by yourself.
Judge: (Off screen) No he won't. (Camera turns to the judge) You're not gonna waste his time with books.
Clara: It's not a waste.
Judge: It is for him.
Jimmy: I'd like to learn how to read, sir.
Judge: Readin's for most folks, cause that's the only way they can learn, but not for you son, believe me. You're the kind of man that learns best from doing not reading. These books got nothin' to teach you. All you'll ever need to know is waiting for you out there. (Points off camera) These are dangerous times we live in. (Walks to fireplace) This country needs men of action. Strong men that can tame the land and bend it to their will. That's your future son. (Tosses book in the fire).
(Pie Bake Off)
Teaspoon: Cherry Pie: I have a great fondness for Cherry pie, it reminds me of my first wife. Peach Pie: light, delicate... like my second wife, she was from Georgia. Apple Pie: delicious to the core, like my third wife. Blackberry Pie: dark, mysterious, like my fourth wife... she was a foreigner. Prune Pie: like my fifth and oldest wife.
Brad complains about Jimmy's choice of drink, but in the old west, Sarsaparilla was kind of a 'cure-all' of sorts. Many drank it and it was not considered a 'woman's' drink.
One of Teaspoon's birthday gifts comes from Amanda (refer to episode The Keepsake), the woman that pretended to be Teaspoon's daughter to get an inheritance. Teaspoon gave her the money and she opened a Saloon, the Silver Spoon Saloon in Abilene, Kansas.
She sends him a framed dollar from the Saloon.
Clara's tombstone says she was born in 1834 and died in 1861.
The express ran from April 1860 to October 1861.
The package that arrives via Emma (from town) for Jimmy lists a return address for:
Miss Clara Enright
Fort Laramie
Wyoming Territory
Now if she was trying to hide the book from her father, why would she put a return address on there? Because if Jimmy wasn't in Sweetwater, the package would have gone BACK to Fort Laramie.
In Season 3, episode Lessons Learned, Polly Hunter arrives and Teaspoon says she is his third wife. According to the pie tasting, she must be: Apple Pie, Delicious to the core, like my third wife.
