      • This TV production gave Leonard Rossiter the chance to recreate the stage performance which, in 1962, had made him famous. Rossiter starred in the original production at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry; the production was staged as part of the city's celebrations for its newly-reopened and re-designed cathedral. Although national critics lavishly praised Rossiter's performance, the cast was changed when the play transferred to London some months later. The new management had insisted on a major star for the leading role and hired no less an actor than Sir Laurence Olivier. However, author David Turner was heard to say that "Laurence isn't as good as Leonard was."
