      • At the beginning of 1966, scriptwriter Giles Cooper met with Evelyn Waugh to discuss this adaptation of his trilogy of novels about World War II. It is said that their discussions were entirely cordial (Waugh was notoriously prickly about adaptations of his work as a rule), but neither man was still alive when the three plays were aired in January of 1967. Waugh succumbed to a fatal heart attack on Easter Sunday, whilst Cooper, only in his forties, was killed by a fall from a train in December.
