      • The title denotes the last three names on the teacher hero's class register. Although Unman and Wittering are characters in the play, Zigo is always mysteriously "absent" - something never explained. (It has been interestingly suggested that the odd name "Zigo" is a running-together of the surname of French film director Jean Vigo and the first word in the title of his most controversial film, "Zero de Conduite" - in which, like the schoolboys of this play, pupils turn on their teachers at a provate school).

      • This play was originally written for radio. Peter Howell and John Sharp had played the same roles in the original radio production as they do in this TV version.

      • This play was turned into a motion picture under the same title in 1971. John Mackenzie directed David Hemmings, Carolyn Seymour and Douglas Wilmer.
