  • In the season opener Jim Bronson takes a temp job at Hanrahan School, a summer camp for disturbed children run by noted therapist Edward Hanrahan and his daughter Doris Hanrahan.

The first offical episode of the show, it suffers from the over-earnestness that mars some of the lesser episodes. Bronson's time in an institute for disturbed kids provides him with a chance to show his sensitivity and warmth, a bit too much of both, for my taste. Decidedly a lesser episode, it nevertheless establishes key things about the character - his above-mentioned sensitivity, his attractiveness to women, his ability to get going at the end - but i wouldn;t recommend it to a newcomer to the show. It lacks the humor and irony that appear in the best episodes. My wife, who had never seen an episode before, found the whole thing, with its 60's psycho-babble and its "significant" phrasing, pretty risible
