  • Hard to take your eyes from. If only the presentation was made easier for them

    8.2
Easily one of the most gripping pilots I've seen for a long time. Performances are off the chart with Andre obviously showing everyone up.

Plot hits the ground running and looks as though we're in for an exciting 13 episodes.

The biggest flaw behind it however would be that it has one of the worst cases of over-direction ever. MTV attention deficit disorder editing coupled with none-to-subtle hand camera techniques is supposed to be stylish, but most of the time came off forced or uneccessary. Luckily it's not always in use, but at the same time makes it even more apparent when they do.

Cinematography wasn't exactly top of the line either.moreless
  • Reminds me of 'The Shield' style of making a movie..

    8.9
This series is great. Altho, not as realistic as The Shield.

How can the main black dude shoot the crack head when he knows his daughter is somewhere close. How can he do such a thing to a little girl, it makes absolutely no sense that he goes back and cuddle her after shooting the dude.

Also, the scene that marked me was when the pothead got out of the trunk and was still alive, and was crawling for his life , thinking that he could escape, it was pretty breath taking, makes me think of how life's short. That was superb.

I don't think they should of killed mr pothead, as he was a great asset in their plots. Ok so he screwed up in the beggining, after all, his the one that got them into the bank. I really see no reason of killing him. Plus, would anyone explain to me how can a smart guy like that be on crack n cockain? It makes no sense to me. Other then that, the story was solid, the hospital scene was rather sad and made we wanna switch channels. Altho i wasnt surprised when the lil girl told his daddy not to touch his dead wife.

    Good job.moreless
  • This pilot shows the heart, emotion, and intensity that recent pilots I have seen lack.

    9.5
This pilot shows the heart, emotion, and intensity that recent pilots I have seen lack(Heist). It is very original and extremely well acted. The characters are believable and the plot is interesting. You don't just see the thief as a man who makes a living taking from others, you see him as a man who is also a loving husband. When his wife is killed in a car accident, he has to become a father as well. Being a father to teenage girl that he fills doesn't respect him becomes even more difficult when she witnesses him shoot a man in their back yard. I came into this show expecting good things, and it delivered. The future looks bright and I hope to see it continue the same way it began.moreless
  • Compelling, interesting, and bad ass at the same time, Thief scores high in acting as it does in writing

    9.0
First off let me say that it's a shame that a show this good with Andre Braugher as the helmer didn't go beyond 6 episodes. I am very happy at being able to see a show about a black character as the lead as most other TV shows just have white men in the forefront it takes balls to be able to ease from the norm when it shouldn't even be a norm. Is it so bad to have racially diverse TV leads such as Thief does? I just never understood why all leads had to be white guys. Anyway Thief achieves a good level of personal drama and professional angst and Nick Atwater is one that we want to see succeed in what's sure to be an unfortunately forgotten series.moreless
  • It was a good pilot episode.

    9.5
I liked the pilot episode they made sure that you got into the story a little bit with the mom of the girl. Then they showed Andre Braugher stealing the money from the safe while the Parade was going on. Now the chinease mafia is after them cause the safe that they stole the money from was from there safe. Now they are trying to trace Nick down by tracking him threw people that he works for. So he is now a theif and a single parent with a kid that isn't even his and on top of it all he has to hide from the chinease mafia. I think that is a pretty good pilot for a new TV show.moreless
