  • Quotes

    • {into her tape recorder/voiceover}
      Breene: Paramedic Parker's breakdown left an immeasurable hole in the fabric of life in that firehouse. Mr. Parker seems to have become a sort of surrogate father for these employees and apparently helped them through difficulties encountered during and after 9/11. This role as father almost certainly contributed to his feeling that it was left to him to rectify what he saw as the closing of the 5-5 and therefore the destruction of his family.

    • Fred: She starts riding with her old friend Bosco tomorrow.
      Yokas: Fred…
      Fred: The kids should know you might not be coming home tomorrow night.
      Yokas: Fred!
      Charlie: What?
      Yokas: Charlie, daddy didn't mean that.
      Fred: I didn't?
      Yokas: No, because you couldn't be that stupid.

    • {about Mikey}
      Rose: He's clean.
      Bosco: I've heard that before.
      Rose: He's got a job now.
      Bosco: I've heard that too.

    • {to Bosco and Mikey}
      Rose: We're gonna sit like normal people and eat lasagna. Is that too much to ask? You're brothers for God's sake.

    • {to Breene}
      Carlos: Are we finished sitting here staring at each other yet?

    • Carlos: What the hell does 9/11 have to do with it?
      Breene: Doc's statements made to the police officer that brought him out suggest it may be the root of his breakdown.
      Carlos: No…Doc's the one that we all talked to. He was the only real strong one. Doc Parker's the reason why I dropped out of med school, okay? Figured if being a paramedic was good enough for someone like him…

    • Sully: So you're riding with Bosco again, huh?
      Yokas: I'm working 5-5 David.
      Sully: Right. You're riding with Bosco again.

    • Cruz: Looks like the dolphin's got some beef with the monkeys.

    • Jelly: Somebody selling tickets here?
      Cruz: What's up, Jelly?
      Jelly: Could you get more people into my crime scene?

    • Jelly: {to the dead guy} Who did this to you, sir? {to Cruz and Dade} An uncooperative victim.

    • Jelly: .45 found ten feet away.
      Dade: Yeah, that's about where I found the casing. Looked like a .45.
      Jelly: I just said that.

    • Mikey: People change, Mo.
      Bosco: Not really, Mikey.

    • Breene: So you're saying that you saved Captain Steeper?
      Levine: Oh, those are your words, not mi--- well, maybe I did, uh, but that's not the point.

    • {about Doc}
      Breene: Did you know him very well?
      Levine: Mm-hmm. Uh, not in this life.

    • Levine: Doc is a teacher. He did this for us, so we could learn lessons. I'm grateful.
      Breene: What lessons have you learned?
      Levine: Uh…I'm still working on that.

    • {to Bosco}
      Yokas: I'm not giving Cruz any heads, okay? We got a tip, we're gonna follow it.

    • {seeing Steven coming out of the Jewelry store with a bicycle}
      Bosco: Look. They sell bicycles?
      Yokas: He doesn't look like the diamond buying type.

    • Jelly: Monkeys and dolphins? I gotta retire.

    • Yokas: You ran two stop signs.
      Steven: What?
      Yokas: Oh, see bicycles are subject to the same traffic laws that cars are subject to.
      Steven: Seriously?
      Yokas: You got a driver's license?
      Steven: Driver's license?
      Yokas: You're annoying me. You're answering every question with a question.

    • Steven: So, even if my folks bring the receipts I still gotta go to court?
      Yokas: Even if.

    • {finding E in the bike}
      Bosco: Oh, Steven.
      Yokas: You got a receipt for that, Steven?

    • {about Doc}
      Kim: Where is he?
      Breene: At Bellevue under suicide watch.
      Kim: Have you spoken to him?
      Breene: He won't talk to anyone.

    • {to Breene about Doc}
      Kim: He had this look in his eyes and…I kept thinking "please…please don't kill yourself. Not here. I can't be a witness to this man killing himself." He had nobody except us. And we let him down.

    • {to Steven about the E}
      Bosco: That's about $15,000 street value.
      Yokas: That's no misdermeanor.

    • Bosco: I want in on this raid.
      Swersky: It's a narcotics operation.
      Bosco: Yeah, but this is our collar.
      Swersky: What about Yokas? She want to be in on the raid too?
      Yokas: Yes, she does.
      Bosco: I was gonna say yes.
      Yokas: I know you were. {to Swersky} And don't think you're gonna tell me that it's too dangerous.

    • Cruz: What the hell's going on?
      Wynn: You didn't know?
      Cruz: Nobody told me anything.
      Yokas: Oh, um…well this was our collar and it turned into a raid. Why would we be telling you anyway?

    • Cruz: We're Anti-Crime. I'm working on an Ecstasy case myself.
      Yokas: Oh, okay.
      Cruz: Yeah.
      Yokas: Well, uh, you're welcome to look at the seizure as long as you don't touch anything.

    • Wynn: The platoon commander wanted these two patrol officers on the raid. I don't know why you weren't included, you just weren't. We gotta roll.
      Yokas: We gotta roll.

    • Bosco: You ready?
      Yokas: Very.
      Bosco: Listen…
      Yokas: If you tell me to be careful, I'll hurt you.

    • {during the raid}
      Bosco: There won't be monkeys on the street anymore, that's for sure.

    • Anthony: Why don't you come and have a steak with us?
      Bosco: Uh…I don't know.
      Anthony: Come on. You know you like the steak at Manetti's.
      Rose: Come on.
      Bosco: They do make a good steak.

    • Jelly: I ever tell you how I managed to stay happy in my career? By staying out of the drama.
      Cruz: Good for you.
      Jelly: All I want is a simple clearance. Just do my job and put a murder down.
      Cruz: But…
      Jelly: This one's gonna be full of drama. It already makes my ulcer hurt. I got my sheet back from my DOA's cell phone.
      Cruz: And?
      Jelly: And it says he was talking to someone named Michael Boscorelli.

    • {into her tape recorder/voiceover}
      Breene: Kim Zambrano actually returned to work from her own mental collapse on September 11th. She pushed aside her own pain and answered the city's call for help. This is a theme, which, as you know, runs through most of the city's emergency employees. Carlos Nieto acted selflessly during the hostage incident at the firehouse and certainly saved Captain Steeper's life. However, as do many of the survivors of 9/11, he clearly doesn't feel heroic. Despite their hesitance to speak openly with me, if they do not locate an avenue for such a discussion they will never adequately recover from this trauma.

    • {Cruz shows up at Bosco's apartment}
      Bosco: What do you want?

    • Cruz: The jewelry store Bosco. The Hassids?
      Bosco: I had a confidential informant.
      Cruz: Oh really? Who's that?
      Bosco: That would be the confidential part.

    • Bosco: I was at his meeting last night…he got that six month coin or whatever.
      Cruz: He did? Well, that's interesting, because see, I got 17 of those coins from my sister over the years before she died. Seventeen. How much are those worth now?

    • {about Mikey}
      Bosco: He had the whole family there to see him get that six month coin, and the whole time, the whole time, he's dealing Ecstasy.

    • Bosco: You know what really pisses me off? That I was stupid enough to fall for the whole damn "I changed" thing. Nobody changes. People don't change, do they, Dad? We can go out, we can go have all those steak dinners we want, but it don't make us a family. I'm my own family.
