Charlie Brown says that that reminds him of what Linus said in France. Charlie Brown explains that after they left the chateau they stayed at there car fell apart. They trade in there car and are back on the road. Later it gets dark and they realize they made a wrong turn. They camp outside there car and Linus then realizes where he is. He figures out that he is at where the D-Day invasion happened the same beach. He spends the rest of the night thinking of what happened there. The next morning Linus tells Charlie Brown, Peppermint Patty, and Marcie where they are. The then visit the American Cemetery. They are back on the road after that. They go back in the town a see a tank that was used in World War II. They have breakfast and Snoopy drives again. Linus tells him to pull over. They are in Flanders Fields. This is the sequel to the film Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown. This begins as a flashback where Charlie Brown relates the events of his trip to his sister, Sally. It starts out pretty much where the film ending left off. The gang's time as exchange students is over, quickly, I might add, and they're traveling through France to get a ferry back to England. On the way, the pass some famous landmarks and get some World War I and II history lessons from the knowledgeable Linus. Even though it's been years since I first saw the film and this episode, I recognize some recycled images from the film used in this episode. Like always, poor Charlie Brown gets the short end of the stick having to crank start the new car. It only treats him bad, but will only start for him. I enjoyed this episode because it related a nice history lesson and showed some pretty funny bits. I noticed this is one of the rare episodes where an adult talks normally. Great episode for use in an educational setting.moreless

    • Linus: See these flowers? These are poppies. There's a legend that says where battles are fought, these white flowers all turned red and in the center of each flower, there was a cross.

    • Linus: We're at Omaha Beach. This is where it all started.
      Patty: What started?
Linus: This is where the invasion was. This is where the Allies landed on D-Day.
      Patty: D-Day?
Linus: June 6, 1944. This is the beach where the Allies landed in World War II. Thousands of men came ashore right here where you're standing.
      Patty: Came ashore? From where?
Linus: From across the Channel. It was terrible. I read that by 10:30 in the morning, over 3,000 men had been killed or wounded.

    • Sally: What are you doing, big brother?
Charlie Brown: Just sort of getting my photo album up to date. These are pictures I took in France. Remember when Linus and Marcie and Peppermint Patty and went to France as exchange students?
Sally: And your dog? How did he get to go along?
Charlie Brown: Who knows? Who knows how he does anything he does?
Sally: You never told me what happened while you were there. I mean, after the fire in the chateau. You never told me how you got home. And did you learn anything? What did you learn?

    • Linus: What have we learned, Charlie Brown?

    • This special follows the 1980 movie Bon Voyage Charlie Brown (and don't come back!)

    • This was 24 minutes long, which was the same amount as TIACB. With the success of What Have We Learned, Charlie Brown Charles Schulz probably got the idea for the mini series after this.

    • What Have We Learned, Charlie Brown was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding animated program and won a Peabody Award

    • This did not air in 1988 with This Is America Charlie Brown, but it is the same type of special that was released five years before This Is America Charlie Brown premiered. There is a different cast in this special than the regular TIACB. This did not air in syndication with TIACB on Your On Nickelodeon Charlie Brown either.
