We begin as an outsider much like the main character Alice De Raey (played by Cara Pifko) into the world of the Canadian justice system. As she learns in this baptism by fire we are brought along for the ride.
I originally jumped into the series towards the end of season one and was rivited by the characters and incredible writing that the show possesed. Now that I'm going back and starting from the beginning it's clear to see that what drew me in originally is not as strong in these early episodes.
Some of the characters were tweaked a bit as the season went on to make them more quirky I guess and the hyper-dramatic elements were toned down. What it really shows is that the writers didn't know the characters that well initially and as they got to know them better and became more comfortable with them, the quality of the writing and acting went straight up and never looked back.moreless
