Everyone on Sodor seems to be happy except James, who is stuck working with trucks. Thomas snaps at him before heading off. He meets Percy and Oliver, who are excited as they are collecting a special load for the carnival! Meanwhile, James is bumping trucks around the yard when he sees an upset Mrs Kyndley, who is sad as her sister can't see her. The Fat Controller is informed and sends Harold to take her over Sodor. Later, Oliver and Percy are collecting horses for the carnival when James tells them he is taking Mrs Kyndley on a tour around Sodor. That night, James takes the woman to the carnival opening! Thomas then remarks to James about making others happy.

Mrs Kyndley hasn't been seen since Season One, so she obviously got another holiday! This is her last appearance ever in the series so it was good she got to have a good send off. James is staying in his usual standards of being stuck up and completely unbearable, so this was a good episode for him, espically as he managed to actually be nice for once! I was glad Harold, Thomas, Oliver and Percy all managed to have actually roles and weren't just shoved in there. Though, I liked how Oliver and Percy's storyline managed to slip in rather easily. Tiger Moth was used again but he is doomed to only having mild roles. The carnival scenes were a bit creepy with the laughter, the clown and The Fat Controller's face but otherwise it was a very good episode!moreless
  • James actually cares about someone else!!!

This story featured one of my favorite people from this show, Mrs. Kyndley. Unfortunately, her sister can not come to see her as she had planned, and Sir Thopham Hatt decides to cheer her up. There is a carnival on the island, and James is sent to take Mrs. Kyndley on a tour around the island. They end up at the fair, and she gets to declare it open. James is happy he was able to make her day extra special.

Make Someone Happy is still one of my favorite season five stories to this day. It had a good storyline, and featured classic characters like James, Harold, Oliver, and more. I also liked the idea that for once, James was not as self centered as he usually is. He was more than happy to, as the title explains, make someone happy.

The only thing about this episode I didn't like really had nothing to do with the actual story. I didn't like that Mrs. Kyndley was never heard from again after this episode. And Tigermoth, despite being a minor character, was almost completely forgotten after his brief appearance. But despite the final appearances, this was an overall good episode with a great story.moreless
