No Sleep For Cranky
Cranky is always feeling, well... cranky! This is because every night he has to stay up late to load and unload important goods being imported and exported at the harbour. Then one day, Salty (unintentionally) gets on the crane's nerves so much that in a fit of rage, Cranky drops some pipes that knock over a shed resulting in blocking the Main Line! Harvey won't be able to clear the shed till morning so how will the time be able to be passed?moreless

  • New titles, new characters, new fonts, new writers, new music, new Brendam Docks!

This episode marks the beginning of a lot of new things. It is the first episode with the new titles, new fonts used, two new characters, new writers, Michael O'Donnell and Junior Campbell's music has been updated again, and we have a new design for Brendam Docks. It is also the first episode to use the new models from Thomas and the Magic Railroad.

What can I say for this episode? It has lots of funny parts in it, Michael Angelis' narration is as great as ever, and the direction in the opening scene is great! The first scene in the episode after the titles really does feel like the first episode of a new series, so well done David Mitton for that! I didn't get how Salty and Harvey appeared without being introduced properly yet. In my opinion (and I think others agree) I think the Jack & the Pack episodes should have come first, then The Fogman, Salty's Secret, Harvey to the Rescue and then this one.

Overall, a great episode to start the sixth season of Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, the last season to actually use this title of the show!moreless
  • Not the best way to start

Brendam Docks is a very busy place which means that Cranky the Crane can't get a decent sleep as he is always working. One day, Salty the Dockside Diesel is late and Cranky is annoyed. Then, Bill and Ben arrive and ask Salty to hear some of his stories, much to Cranky's annoyance. In fury, he drops some pipes and they knock a shed over, trapping the three engines. The Fat Controller scolds Cranky and Salty passes the time telling stories. The next day, Harvey arrives to clean up the mess and Cranky is overjoyed with happiness that Salty would be leaving that he helps tidy up and is nice fo the rest of the day- until he drops some pipers again.

There was lots of anger over the many changes that happened in Season Five after the death of the Reverend Awdry. However, that is nothing compared to how terrible this season is. Even the first episode was bad. I must admit that Cranky, who mainly only had one lead roles and a few minor roles last season, was very funny, there were lots of bad thigns as well. Firstly, it airs out of production order so that Salty and Harvey, who do seem rather unique, aren't even properly introduced! It was also nice to see Bill and Ben have a nice role, though the out of order mistake confuses fan as they don't know why they are friends with Salty. Thomas and Percy being slipped in their was very stupid at the end. The shed collapsing shows that there must not be a back exit to Brendam Docks which is strange, and the dockyard itself has had a large makeover! After seeing this episode, you'll question wheter or not to continue watching this season after it's poor performance.moreless
  • Cranky gets not rest.

Cranky is a very cranky crane, andone day, Salty comes to see Cranky, and so do Bill & Ben. Cranky feels very cross with them and drops some pipes, who knock over the shed. Salty, Bill & Ben were trapped. The Fat Controller felt very cross with Cranky, and Salty had to stay there with Bill & Ben until Harvey arrived. Salty said he was going o tell tales for thetime to pass quickly, and this made Cranky feel very very upset. In the morning, Harvey arrives to clear the mess, and Cranky is so pleased, he promises never to be cranky again. But when he drops some pipes on to the track - we're not so sure!

    Good episode, I give it 7.9 / 10.moreless
  • The beginning of the sixth season.

Cranky is, well, cranky. He is always working hard at the docks, and he is very lonely. Bill and Ben come, and Salty starts telling his famous stories. This obviously does not make Cranky happy, and he causes a crash which traps the enigines at the docks. Salty talks all night until Harvey clears up the mess in the morning. Cranky is so happy that he is going to be alone again, that he forgets to be cranky and helps get things back in order.

Well, another season has begun. They may not be classic Awdry stories, but these episodes were not that bad. Now, about this particular story. As it was broadcasted out of order, it was nice to see Salty and Harvey immediately appear for the second time. This was also the second season in a row to feature Cranky as the main character for the first episode, something I thought to be a bit repetitious. Overall, I didn't think this episode was that great. But compared to some of the later seasons, I am fine with it.moreless
