A new library is going to be open on the island, and a famous storyteller is coming to do so, as well as tell the children a story. Thomas is ordered by Sir Topham Hatt to collect her from Brendam Docks and show her the sights of Sodor so that she can create a story in time. Thomas puffs to the docks where he collects the storyteller and chuffs off. He plans to show her Pirate's Cove, the Ruined Castle, and Misty Valley for some ideas for a story. However, along the way, he helps James to take his passengers to Maithwaite Station when his side-rods snap, pulls Emily to the flour mill to deliver her cars of flour when her whistle breaks, and pushes Percy out of a flooded river when his fire goes out. Thomas hasn't shown the storyteller any of the places and he is already late for the grand opening. When he arrives at the station near the library, Thomas is worried about letting the storyteller down, but she tells him that her story will be about him helping his friends. The storyteller then declares the library open, and all the children and engines listen to the story that she reads. Another season of Thomas has come, and I was pretty entertained by this episode. Once again, it's another story about an engine doing a special job, but I didn't mind since these types of stories has been used extensively in the last three seasons. The library was a nice addition to the ever expanding island, and it's nice to hear the narrators say that all the children AND grown-ups love reading books. And speaking of narrators, I have to say that both Michael Angelis and Michael Brandon are great with narrating this episode. Angelis sounds more enthusiastic that the previous few seasons and Brandon is really improving, making them both more tolerable in HIT's episodes. It was also nice to hear the term "guaranteed connection" used, as well as engines working without whistles being unsafe, proving that HIT is willing to make their episodes contain railway realism while keeping them exciting. However, having said that, there are still some problems with the railway realism in this episode. Once more, flour is dumped into open freight cars with no protection and side-rods are called coupling-rods. The episode itself, like many people say, is a rehash of season 9's "Percy and the Oil Painting", which not only makes this episode unoriginal, but proves that the writers can't think of new and original ideas when it comes to making a season every year. And it's another episode with repetive dialogue, which can get annoying. Despite these faults, I quite liked this episode the first time I saw it. It may be your average season 11 episode, but it's definitely better than the season premieres of the last three seasons. I give this episode a 7.7/10.moreless
It was 2005. A new season of Thoams & Friends was beginning with a story of Percy showing an artist around Sodor to inspire him. Two years later, in the same spot as that story, comes one about Thomas showing an author around for inspiration. It's just very unoriginal. And "Percy & The Oil Painting" at least had the artist giving good excuses. "Too green", "Too tall". Here, Thomas said the same set of words for every excuse. It was at least nice to see the engines having realistic problems (James breaking his coupling rod in his "guaranteed connection"), but it would have been a lot better if even more originality was used for this remake.moreless
Thomas is sent to collect a famous storyteller for the opening of a new library, and is supposed to take the teller to sites of Sodor so she can write a new story to tell. Though, Thomas's friends get in trouble, and Thomas must help him, each helping losing time for the story-writing. Though Thomas never showed the teller any sites, she still wrote a story - a story about a little blue engine who helped his friends. Eh... Not very good. Again, Thomas is used as a goody-two-shoes, and shows no real personality. Though, it was nice to see Percy caught in a flood, which brought back memories of the Season 3 episode, "Percy's Predicament". 6.6 out of 10.moreless
This is the first time the Mayor of Sodor appears in an actual episode. He previously appeared in some season 10 interstitials and was mentioned in a few previous episodes.
Edit
This is the last season to be narrated by Michael Brandon or Michael Angelis.
