Episode Summary

After looking at the Book of Omens, and seeing a picture of a necklace, Lion-O discovers that there are pictures of the Thundercats on the necklace. Jaga appears to Lion-O and tells him that he is looking at a picture of the Chain of Loyalty. Jaga tells Lion-O that if the chain gets broken, it would cause the Thundercats to turn against each other. In hearing this, Lion-O and the Thundercats (Panthro, Tygra, Cheetara, and the Thunderkittens) set off to Thundera to find the chain. Mumm-ra, eavesdropping on Lion-O through his pool at the pyramid, goes to Thundera, kidnaps and disguises himself as Snarf. When the Thundercats arrive, they split up into groups to find the chain, and Mumm-Ra goes with Lion-O and the Thunderkittens. Lion-O's group finds the chain and Mumm-Ra gets it, breaks it, and returns to his true form. For a while, the Thundercats, except Lion-O, fight against each other until Lion-O uses the sword of Omens, which magically puts the necklace back together. Mumm-ra is defeated and the Thundercats return to Third Earth.moreless

  • Pretty Good

The idea of the chain of loyalty seems a little strange from an adult standpoint, though I don't recall thinking that as a child and children are the target audience. If nothing else, it was fun to watch ThunderCats fighting each other for a change and gave them an excuse to do it as they would never start fighting each other without some kind of external influence.

I still find it strange how Cheetara's staff could turn into a flexible rope to tie her up. The most enjoyable fight to watch was between Lion-O, Tygra, and Cheetara. Overall, this was an enjoyable episode to watch and one of the few times I felt sympathy for Ma-Mutt.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • The Chain of Loyalty is one of the treasures of Thundera. It is a necklace with four circular images on it. One of Tygra, one of Panthro, one of Cheetara, and one of Wilykit and Wilykat. It is deceptively delicate as Jaga warned Lion-O and if broken, will cause the ThunderCats to fight amongst themselves. When broken, the four images change to resemble the closed eye on the Sword of Omens.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • (Tygra crawling on creaking branch)
Cheetara: You've been eating too much of Snarf's candy-fruit pie!

    • Panthro: I have no friends. I hunt alone. Everyone is my enemy. Say goodbye to tomorrow, ThunderCat!

    • Cheetara: Wrong, Lion-O, I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm going to destroy you!
Tygra Not if I get there first, Cheetara! And when I've finished with Lion-O, I'll finish you!

    • Panthro: Another couple of hours and I'll reach the Feliner. What better place to ambush the lord of the ThunderCats!

    • Lion-O: This is my fault. I lost my temper with Mumm-Ra and I broke the Chain of Loyalty.

    • Lion-O: Wilykit, 'kat, what in the name of Jaga do you think you're doing? Stop it!
Wilykit: Oh, take a hike, Lion-O! Back off!
Wilykat: Yeah, we're sick of being bossed around by you!
      Lion-O: What?!
Wilykit: Just who do you think you are anyway, huh?

    • Mumm-Ra: (thinking to himself) You may laugh now, ThunderKittens, but I'll soon make you laugh on the other side of your faces.
