  • Inevitability makes this a must see.

Is this the moment you've been waiting for? The big climax to the Day of atonement saga? Indeed it should be if you have been watching the series thus far and paying attention. I have to ask the question is this as good as it gets though? Hopefully not buy a long shot, but I'm afraid so. Finaly Lion O ( would be lord of the thundercats ) must face off against the ever living evil know only as Mumm-ra. The main hero and main villian of the show coming head to head without interference. The biggest question remaing, does Lion O have what it takes to beat Mumm-ra without the sword of Omens and Claw glove? This reminds me of the first time luke confronted Vader, although much different. After analyzing the whole episode, I've come to realize this episode although interesting, lacks the focus it should have. More time and scenes should have been made in the final confrontation.

Still it is what the audience has been waiting for, mostly. In the end it seems as if Lion O did almost nothing himself to defeat Mumm-ra directly. true he was able to find a weakness connected to Mumm-ra, but deafting Mum-ra without exploiting that would have been more heroic more remarkable. The ending provides some satisfaction and then undoes alot of what has already been established. So much for changing things. Yet, it still reinforces the fact that Mumm-ra can never truely be defeated. If thats the case then, why bother? It seems as though this battle has alot more left to show us than has already. Regardless, this episode has a decent amount of action, suspense, and a few surprises. However, I dont think it was intense enough to be considered a Season Finale. Although, it was one of the best episodes thus far, possibly the best ever.moreless
  • Final Round

It's the moment of truth when Lion-O participates in his final test which is to defeat his greatest foe, Mum-Ra. What I liked about this episode is we got to see more of Mum-Ra's fortress mainly the underground passageway which lead to a cat god, by what the cat god says it gives you a little sense of history to the fortress. Then Lion-O has to go river rafting in a underground river in more of the underground that looks a little like Hell. This part was obviously loosely inspired by the Ferryman myth or a bit of Dante's inferno. But he fights demons and other nasties then finally gets to Mum-Ra. I'll admit I wish that the confrontation between the two was a little longer, I would have loved to see Lion-O and Mum-Ra utilze just a bit more fistacuff action. But oh well it worked out well all the same, we saw Lion-O for once not use his Sword of Omens and Power Claw, instead he used his fists, feet, and wits to win, it may have been harder for him but it made him stronger. I felt that was part of the morality of this story, it just goes to show you don't always need weapons to win by nature their really just tools, you can use whatever abilitys and courage is inside you because they are all the weapons you really need. What we saw wasn't just a physical battle but it was a spiritual battle. And other than that creepy twist ending, we saw that Lion-O hard work all paid off in the end, he prove that he is not just Lord of the Thundercats but that he's a man.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • When Lion-O is anointed lord of the Thundercats he is wearing a red cape. Wilykit gives him his sword and claw shield back, then Cheetara puts a crown on his head.

    • When Lion-O is finally crowned, among those in the audience on the bridge to Cats Lair are Snarf and Snarfer, Mandora the Evil Chaser and Quick Pick, Willa, Nayda, and the Warrior Maidens, Dr. Dometone, Hachiman, the Unicorn Keepers and a unicorn, Safari Joe's robot, Snowmeow, a ninja, Molemen, Brutemen, Wollos, Berbils, and Trolligs.

    • When the episode opens, there is a crown and robe laying next to the Sword of Omens and Claw Shield in Cats Lair.

    • Maftet, the Lynx god, told Lion-O he could have been a Lion god. He then told Lion-O that the problem would then be that he too would be weak since Maftet had been weakened from a lack of worship.

    • At the end of the episode it appears that the ancient spirits of evil, living inside the statues in Mumm-Ra's pyramid, are responsible for bringing him back into his physical form. This is the first time Mumm-Ra has returned from prior disentigration.

    • Jaga makes two quick appearances in this episode. First Lion-O tells him he doesn't want his advice and that he needs to make his own decision. Then after he defeats Mumm-Ra, Jaga confirms he will always be there for him.

    • The path to Mumm-Ra's inner chamber is led to by the River of Doom which flows underground.

    • The Eye of Thundera demonstrates it knows when Lion-O is in danger, even when separated from him. At the beginning of the episode, it growled from Cats Lair. Panthro said that the sword was agitated in anticipation of Lion-O's trial against his most deadly enemy.

    • It is revealed that Mumm-Ra's life / stamina is linked to his sarcophagus. When it becomes damaged Mumm-Ra is weakened, and when destroyed Mumm-Ra turns to ash and is blown away.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Lion-O: If I am to be the true lord of the Thundercats, I have to make my own decisions.
Jaga: You are right. And by making your own decisions and by making them work, you've passed the final trial. (starts to disappear)
Lion-O: Jaga, wait! (Jaga disappears completely) Does that mean I'll never see you again?
Jaga: No, Lion-O, I'll always be here when you need me.

    • Lion-O: You've always been my guide and teacher, Jaga, and my friend. But this time, I must find my own way.
      Jaga: Very well.
      Lion-O: Jaga! Wait!
Jaga: Why? You have made your decision, Lion-O. (disappears) You don't need my advice.

    • Jaga: Your nerves are on edge, Lion-O. You must rest before you confront Mumm-Ra.
Lion-O: Creatures of darkness are best fought at night, Jaga.

    • Mumm-Ra: The upstart Lion-O plans to attack me. You must intercept and destroy him. He will be without the Sword.
Jackalman: (yawning) Can't it wait till morning?
Mumm-Ra: No! It cannot! He is already on his way.
Monkian: (sarcastically) What about your own invicible powers, your ever-living lordship?
Slithe: Surely you could crush him yourself with one flick of your mighty hand?
Mumm-Ra: You mock me, miserable Mutants?! Do as I command!

    • Mumm-Ra: So, Lion-O has to destroy me... the ever-living lord of evil. It will indeed be his final trial. By the end of the day, Lion-O will be no more!
