I pretty much expected this to happen, but I was hoping there was a chance that the San Francisco 49ers would win this game. That would keep their playoff hopes alive and it would give the Kansas City Chiefs a little bit of breathing room in the AFC West divisional race. The game was a blowout from the get-go though, and these were the 49ers that showed up for the early weeks of the season, not the team that has been playing the past few weeks and the team that ESPN analyst Mike Ditka said would win the AFC West.moreless

    • San Francisco Coach Mike Singletary: This team has highs and lows, but if we are fortunate enough to go to the playoffs, I think we deserve to go.

    • (on striving for a shutout)
San Diego Linebacker Brandon Siler: We wanted it bad. We were saying on the sideline, 'Don't give up anything cheap.' It hurts a little bit, but I think we already know we're a good defense. We proved that.

    • (on the chemistry between quarterback Phillip Rivers and receiver Vincent Jackson)
Sand Diego Center Nick Hardwick: He and Phil have such a good rapport. They both know what's going on, and they've studied for hours together. We were expecting him to come in and explode, and that's what he's done. He's a beast. He does things other players can't do, and he did it tonight.
