Not the prettiest football game you will ever see, but New England was able to scrape by New York for the win. What is perhaps the biggest takeaway is that the Patriots defense can play well when they want to, forcing interceptions, fumbles and havoc for most of the night on the Jets. This side of the football will need to step up for New England to make a run given how poor the receiving situation is right now.moreless

    • (on his three rookie receivers, as compared to veteran Julian Edelman, who caught 13 of his 19 completions)
New England Quarterback Tom Brady: It's unrealistic for them to feel like they can do it like 10-year veterans. That's not what they are, but they're trying hard and they work real hard and they have a lot of skill.

    • New England Linebacker Jerod Mayo: Over the years our offense has bailed us out so many times. If the score is 43-42 or 3-0, we'll take it, especially against a division opponent like the Jets.

    • (on rookie quarterback Geno Smith)
New York Coach Rex Ryan: Geno had his (good) moments. I don't know how many balls we dropped today, but it was a bunch.
