AIRED:
After a security guard is shot down when trying to stop a diamond vault robbery, an investigating detective is determined to prove that the guard had taken a bribe from the robbers, and wants to nail him for aiding the theives. The guard is an old friend of Hooker's, who knows that his friend wouldn't have been involved.
As he and Romano investigate to find out the true circumstances, it begins to seem as if the investigating detective is willing to go to any lengths, including blackmail, to see that he is covered in glory for his busts and quickly flies through the ranks...moreless

    Three men rob a diamond exchange. They talk about the security guard being involved. A security guard comes down to check them and they shoot him. Hooker and Romano get silent alarm call to the robbery. They chase one of them to the roof. He tries to jump to another building and he is killed when he falls. Hooker's friend Ben Edwards was the security guard who was shot. He is still alive. He gives him a partial description. They find out later that a prime suspect named Cody Mayfield is wanted for that kind of robbery in three states. A detective named Holland takes the case and tells Hooker to stay out of it. He goes to a snitch named Durbin and he tells him Cody is involved and also that the security guard was involved. Hooker finds out that Holland has been harassing Ben's daughter about her dad being involved. He confronts him and Holland shows him a note about the robbery that was found in Ben's uniform. Later at the hospital Jerry Lee Lewis comes to visit Ben. He had to fire him a year ago and his daughter does not like him for it. Ben tells Hooker that another security guard named Joey Bonner asked him to take over for him. Later Hooker finds out that Ben and Joey were arrested for drug possesion for sale. Only Joey was prosecuted, so Hooker believes Ben is still innocent. Jerry Lee Lewis tells Hooker the whole story. Ben was protecting Joey because he is his step brother. Jerry Lee let him go to get him away from Joey. Holland's snitch sets up another meet. He tells him about money they put in his account to frame him. Holland shoots him and runs off. He finds a map of the Coffield Exchange which he believes will be the next hit. Hooker talks to Ben and he tells him everything. Joey got scared to pull off the job and Ben took over. He wanted to arrest them himslef and make his daughter proud. Ben also tells them that Durbin was involved. They find him dead. Hooker thinks Durbin was his source because he found matches at the scene that Holland uses. Holland sets up a sting to cover the jewelry exchanges. Romano picks the Coffield exchange, but Holland convinces him to pick another site. Hooker finds a map in the trash that had Coffield Exchange cirlced. They check out their site and head over to the Coffield exchange. They catch Cody Mayfield on the roof. He tells Hooker he saw Holland kill Durbin. Hooker arrests Holland and Mayfield. Hooker, Ben and friends go to see Jerry Lee Lewis perform. Solid episode with Hooker believing in his friend.moreless
