Hooker and Romano have a coffee break with Karen Hall and her partner. She is recently divorced and asks Hooker out. He is speechless as a call comes in. They respond to a robbery call. They get into a shootout as the crooks get in their car and slam thru the two cop cars and get away. Karen is injured and can't feel her legs. Hooker is at the hospital and blames himself. The crooks meet at a club and meet with the head man named Jason. One of the crooks is named Tate. They deal over the guns they are stealing for him. Hooker is told at the hospital that Karen will have to lose her legs or her life. Hooker is ticked off and wants to bury the guys who did it. Hooker goes after a gang leader named Dino Morales. He has a gun on him and Hooker wants to know who sold it to him. He lets him go and tells him he wants to know who is robbing the gun stores. That night he goes to see Karen at the hospital. She is very upset and tells Hooker she does not want to see her mother or her son at the moment. Hooker goes to see her mother and son. He tells her she will need a little more time. Morales tells Hooker his cousin got it from a black man and that they are working in the area. They get another robbery call and they shoot it out with the crooks. They get away but Hooker finds a piece of his pocket and a reed from a saxophone or a clarinet. Hooker goes to see Karen again and really gives it to her and makes her realize all will be ok. She asks to see her family. Ramano finds out that the owner of the reed is named Jerry Slaughter, who is out on paroll. They also find out where he plays his instrument, a place called "The Action". They talk to the bartender about the sax player. He confirms it's Slaughter. They try to arrest him and he runs out and gets hit by a car. Hooker pulls plans from his pocket. Hooker believes it's a sketch of a werehouse on the docks. They arrive and catch them in the act. Hooker goes around the back and runs through a corridor to get into position(the same scene that begins the third season credits). He follows Tate to the roof as the others are captured. He grabs him and takes him away. The next day Hooker and Romano talk to Karen and let her know she can still make a difference as a cop. Another wonderful episode with Leo Rossi playing one of the crooks. He plays a great slimy character.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • The headlights and, thus, tail lights on Martin's patrol car are clearly off before she enters the robbery scene. As she is injured and the bad guys speed off, those lights are on.

    • When Romano and Hooker chase Jerry Slaughter out of the club where he was playing, Romano 'bounces' off the brick wall at the back. The 'brick' wall bends around his hand like it was a heavy curtain.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Hooker: You got a permit for this cannon, punk?
Punk: It's not mine. I found it!
Hooker: Where'd you find it?! And skip the cha-cha 'cause I'm not in the mood for fairy tales!

    • Romano: You looking to check out gang activity?
Hooker: Gang activity, gun activity. There's been a steady stream of guns turning up into the hands of street punks...
Romano: ...which may tie to the gun-shop heists.
Hooker: It's worth shaking a few trees!

    • Hooker: Would there be any other way... besides amputation?
Doctor: I'm afraid it could be a matter of her leg or her life.
Hooker: Her legs are her life!

    • Corrigan: I don't know what happened, but, uh, you can't hold yourself responsible.
Hooker: That's right. You don't know what happened, so spare me the bedside manner, will ya?

    • (after learning that Hall has lost her leg at the hands of a bad guy)
Romano: Hooker, I know how you feel.
Hooker: Do ya? I don't think so, Junior. I don't think you know what's in my gut. That scum who pulled the trigger is gonna wish he never saw a cop. I'm gonna find him. And I'm gonna bury him.
