Hooker is jogging on the beach early in the morning and says hello to Alice Danner as he jogs by. He then finds a dead girl on the beach. He finds out the work load at the station is putting her murder at the bottom of the pile. She had no identification, so she is a "Jane Doe". Corrigan and Stacey offer to help. Hooker and Romano go to the morgue for the offical report. She was hit on the head with something. Hooker takes her black book and a key. They search the beach for another clue and Alice tells him she will look thru her pictures she took on the beach for any clues. Hooker calls all of the numbers in the black book to get some information. Later he goes to Alice's house to pick up the photos and have dinner. That night Hooker talks to a guy named Grant. He won't give his first name. Hooker runs it down and finds out he is named Grant Chandler. He is an important Bank owner. Hooker talks with him and he won't talk. Grant sends his partner in crime Jack Ryker to kill Hooker. They try, but Hooker escapes. Later Chandler talks to Ryker about his laundering drug money for him and tells him to kill Hooker again. They place a bomb on Hooker's car, but they get out before it blows. Corrigan & Stacey find out the girl's name was Susan Fairchild. Hooker heads over to her address. The key he has does not fit. They find some letters from Eddie Beal, who is serving time in jail. Eddie says he was set up for a drug bust. Roy Downing is the man he said set him up. He also tells Hooker her parents don't care about her. He calls them and they did not care. Hooker goes back to see Alice. He gets another photo from her. It was a photo of Grant on that samw beach. Hooker goes to check out his beach house that is nearby the beach. The key he has fits the lock and a sketch of the murder weapon matches a sculpture in the house. On the way out Hooker meets Roy Downing. He tells him he works for Ryker who works for Chandler. He tells Hooker she was killed because she was going to tell about his drug dealings. Hooker gets Roy to help him catch Chandler. He tells Hooker where they will both be. Hooker chases Grant to a speed boat and he takes off. Hooker takes a copter and jumps into the speed boat and stops Grant. The final scene shows all four at the grave site of Susan. FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Both Marc Alaimo and Robert O'Reilly had recurring roles in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Gul Dukat, a Cardassian, and Gowron, a Klingon, respectively.

    • When Hooker is jogging on the beach at the start of this episode, he has a dog with him that can be presumed to be his; though we've never seen this dog in his apartment or anywhere previously, nor is it ever seen again.

    • Not only do road conditions change, but the police car also changes several times between the old and new models.

    • A chunk of footage, as Hooker and Romano, discover by chance that there is a bomb attached under their patrol car and race to a deserted area and get out just in time before it explodes, is recycled from the second season episode "Requiem for a Cop."

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Stacy: Does he have any ideas who the [perpetrators] were?
Corrigan: No, but they're sure it's connected to his Jane Doe.
Romano: They had to have been looking for the little black book. There wasn't anything else in Hooker's room worth stealing.
      (Stacy and Corrigan smile)
