  • Hooker is out to clear Corrigan's name after he kills a man. The man Willy Donavan was an old foe Corrigan never caught for illegal activity.

Hooker and Romano start the episode by talking aobut all the young kids being out so late at night. They wonder where the parents are. They get a call on a box office robbery. A guy names Greg Stewart, who baby sitted for Hooker in the past, is handing out warnings about drug use at the concert(nice to see a positive look at a person trying to stop srug use and not being made fun of). Hooker arrives and the robbers throw a bomb under his car. They race away in bikes. Greg yells at Hooker to get out of the car. They all move back as a punker looks to see what is happening. Greg saves hism from the blow but dies from injuries he sustains. Corrigan finds out his old foe Willy Donavan is in town and is the lead suspect. Hooker finds out all of the recent robberies have the same security company(Pacific Security). He thinks it's an inside job. Later Corrigan and Stacey interrogate an old girlfriend about Donavan. She won't say anything. Later he see him on the wharf where she works. He chases him as Stacey calls for backup. Corrigan ends up at the carousel. Donavan shoots at him and Corrigan shoots back and kills him. Hooker and Romano arrive and they all go in. They find Jim with the dead Donavan. The investigation starts looking like Jim had it out for Donavan. There is also a complaint about Corrigan being too rough with the girlfriend. Jim is relieved from duty and put on a desk until further notice. Hooker battles the shooting team to believe in Jim. Hooker and crew work to clear Corrigan. Hooker talks with Corrigan and tells him to ride it out. Hooker finds out Donavan's brother worked with him. They track him down at a gambling joint. Jim shows up and they chase him down. He says Jim always had it out for him. Later the inveatigaters find out that Jim threatened to kill Donavan at his trail years ago, when Donavan was let off. Hooker is upset that Jim is not staying away while they work on the case. There is another hit by the same people. They get away on bikes. Hooker finds an ex-con that tells him a man names "The Greek" is into the explosives the crooks use. Hooker talks to Jim about Angelo, a man who was important in Jim's life. He was killed by Donavan and that is why Jim hated him so much. Hooker and the others find out there might be a fourth man involved that hangs out at the race track. They find out that a man named Sturges worked for Pacific Security and he owns a bike shop. They bust him and find out there is another robbery going down. Hooker and Corrigan end up chasing down the crooks on bikes. The crooks are caught after a crash. The final scene has Hooker meeting Jim on a mountain and giving Jim back his badge. This is one of the best epsidoes I have reviewed so far and one of the best I remember watching when I was younger. Corrigan is very good here as the roving cop on a bike looking to solve the case.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • After the carousel scene, we see that Jim and Stacy both have very wet hair from the thunderstorm. Vince and Hooker arrive later, but we see that even though Romano's hair is somewhat damp, T.J. however has perfectly blow-dried, fluffy hair.

    • The shot used of lighting in the sky is one of the most used of all stock footage effects, turning up in countless television series.

    • The shots we see of the motorcycles dirt racing is quite clearly stock footage, evident by the change in film quality. Also, in the first shot we see, it appears to be day (or at least, a very well lit course), but on the next shot, it is much darker.

    • In the shot looking from Corrigan and Hooker's pursuing patrol car to the fleeing robbers car, the patrol car appears to be much closer behind than in connecting shots looking from the back of the robbers car and externally at the two cars.

    • When Donovan is shot by Corrigan, he falls with his eyes scrunched up. As the scene cuts to him falling to the ground to his side, you see his eyes wide open.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Corrigan: I've had my fill of this job. As far as I'm concerned. they can keep my badge.

    • Romano: All these kids at this hour of the night.
Hooker: You'd think they were homeless. But the truth is, most of them have parents, and homes.
Romano: Well, what's with the parents? Don't they care?
      Hooker: You tell me.

  • NOTES (4)

    • German episode title: "Zu schnell geschossen", meaning "Too Quick to Shoot"

    • The opening sequence, with Hooker and Romano driving along at night, observing all the teenage kids out after dark, is recycled from the third season episode "The Cheerleader Murder." Re-use of previous stunts was fairly common, especially in this season, but recycling of actual dialogue, as here, is much less common.

    • The definitive title of this episode is "The Throwaway," though it can sometimes be seen billed simply as "Throwaway."

    • This is the last episode of the show's run to feature Adrian Zmed as Romano. He opted to instead pursue other projects, including hosting American music show Dance Fever, which he was already seen hosting by the time this episode was aired.
