AIRED:
Hooker and Romano get caught up in the dispute between an independent trucker and the ruthless wholesaler who is sabotaging the trucker's operations. Against the wishes of his superiors, Hooker insists that he intervene in the situation before the truckers tire against the lack of action taken against the saboteurs, and become vigilantes to deal with things themselves. A new female police commissioner who doesn't agree with Hooker's methods does not exactly help matters...moreless

Zach Pappas and his daughter Mary are independant truckers and their load has been sabotaged by a man named Alan Tanner. He is a wholesaler who does not like the truckers. Zach tries to drive at Tanner and a man named Don Morgan. Morgan shoots a shotgun at his truck to stop him. Hooker and Romano show up to stop it. They arrest Morgan. He is let go later on. Tanner decides to recruit some muscle out of Chicago. Hooker and the commisioner argue over the use of a choke hold. Hooker believes it can be necessary, she does not. Vic Keller arrives from Chicago to take care of Zach Pappas so the independant truckers won't unite to stand up to him. Zach tells Hooker how Tanner took over a few years ago and killed the guy he worked with. He could not prove it. Later Hooker tells Zach he is working on getting evidence against Tanner. He wants him to call off the meeting of the truckers, but Zach wants an arrest made first. They leave to make a haul. Hooker and Romano find the mechanic tied up. Mary and Zach find out the brakes are out and they crash. Hooker and Romano arrive just in time to pull them out before there is an explosion. Mary still has a meeting with the other truckers. They all are ready to give up and leave or join Tanner. Hooker continues to battle with the commisioner about the way he's doing his job. Ramano helps Mary with a description drawing of the man she saw working on her truck. He is identified as Vic Keller. A junk man admits to selling a faulty part to him. Hooker and Ramano go to see Tanner and Morgan. Morgan ends up spilling his guts after Hooker tells him about the evidence they have on him. The commisioner is right there to hear it. Tanner holds her at gunpoint until Hooker threatens to shoot him anyway. Vic follows Mary and knocks her out and takes her truck. Hooker and Romano chase them down. Hooker jumps onto the truck and stops him. The commisioner decides to work with Hooker on procedures. Another great episode with an appearance of the ape from the Clint Eastwood.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Zack Pappas originally and rightfully complains of a sabotoged box trailer. At the time of his faulty brakes crash, though, he is co-piloting a tanker truck.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Commissioner Cooke: I'm quite satisfied with what's in this file.
Hooker: Don't be. We're fighting a war on crime out there! You can't quarterback it from an ivory tower. You're gonna turn out cops so worried about being second-guessed, they're gonna drive right past trouble. The result'll be more crime and more victims of crime!

    • Commissioner Cooke: This file tells me that you're a man quick to use violence. It also tells me that you're the wrong man to be shaping minds and impressionable recruits.
Hooker: Eh, Commissioner, you're not gonna get any real answers out of that file or behind that desk. Get out into the streets and take a taste before you judge me.

    • Commissioner Cooke: Why did you choose right now to undermine the Commission's ruling on the choke hold with those young recruits?
Hooker: In a few weeks, those young recruits are going to be out on the streets putting it all on the line. I didn't undermine a thing. I just gave 'em the cold, hard facts of life.

    • Thug: It was self-defense! I shot in self-defense!
      Romano: Why'd you run?
      Thug: I was scared!
Hooker: (laughing) Yeah, little fella got scared of the big, bad policemen.
