Episode Recap

The day after the earthquake, Mirai and Yuuki wake up at the place where they and the other survivors spent the night and see that parts of the city are still on fire. Yuuki asks Mirai where Mari went, but she tells him they can get home without her. Mirai tries to use her cell phone again, but she still can't get a signal. Yuuki wonders if their parents are okay, which frustrates Mirai, causing her to yell back at him. Afterwards, Mari returns with some food she got from a convenience store nearby and tells Mirai and Yuuki they can have some.

Mirai tells Mari she thought she had already gone home, since she wasn't around when she and Yuuki woke up. As a result, Mari makes a promise with her to not go anywhere by themselves without telling the other person where they went. Mirai questions why Mari is still helping them, as she could have already gotten home much quicker if she had left by herself. Mari thinks it's fate, since their homes are in the same direction, so they'll travel together.

After they've eaten, they continue to wait outside in the heat. Yuuki gets thirsty, so Mirai let's him drink from the juice drink he had bought for her before the earthquake. Mari decides to check the news on her cell phone to find out what's going on. The newscaster reports that all transportation facilities are suspended and that it will take a long time for them to be restored. A total of 843 deaths have been confirmed due to the earthquake, with several more people missing and injured.

The newscaster continues to report that there are still fires spreading throughout the city, and those near a fire should evacuate to shelter. The newscaster consults with a professor from the Kyoto-Osaka University Disaster and Research Institute, who says that there will be approximately 6.5 million people who will face difficulties reaching their homes. He also believes the aftershocks will continue for three more days at a magnitude of 5.0. Afterwards, Mari turns off her cell phone to conserve battery power.

They overhear a group of people talking about how Odaiba will sink, but Mari reassures Mirai and Yuuki that it won't sink and that everything will turn out fine. They see a man nearby reunite with his family, which makes them sad, so Mari says they should try walking home. However, before they start, a boat from the Japanese Coast Guard passes by, announcing that they will be operating a sea bus to transport the victims and anyone wanting to get on should gather at the pier near Rainbow Bridge.

Mari, Mirai and Yuuki start walking over there along with everyone else. As they're walking, Mirai complains that her feet are sore. Mari takes a look and sees that they're about to start bleeding, so she gives her some band-aids. Aftewards, they continue walking and Mirai asks if they'll even be able to get on the boat, but Mari says they have to at least give it a try. They pass by a woman with crying little boy and baby stroller with one of its wheels stuck under some debris. Mari decides to go help her out and manages to get the stroller unstuck so the woman and her two kids can continue walking with the group.

Afterwards, Mari rejoins Mirai and Yuuki and apologizes for leaving all of a sudden and not keeping the promise they made earlier, but Yuuki doesn't mind since she went to help someone. They continue walking and stop when they reach more people up ahead. Since there's more people now, Mari decides to hold hands with Yuuki and Mirai so they don't get separated. However, Mirai doesn't want to be treated as a child and chooses not to hold hands with Mari. Once the crowd begins walking again, Mirai starts falling behind, as other . But before she can catch up, an aftershock hits, causing everyone to fall to the ground.

After the aftershock is over, everyone gets back up and start walking towards the harbor again. Mirai tries to find Mari and Yuuki again among the crowd, but the people keep pushing her out of the way. Mari finds her and catches her before she falls again. Due to that incident, Mirai finally agrees to hold hands with Mari. Soon after, another aftershock hits, which causes a highway and some more building to collapse. After it's over, they get up and continue walking until they reach the pier.

At the pier, there's a sea bus and another boat for rescuing those who fell in the water. As they're walking towards the sea bus, a group of people from behind start pushing everyone in front of them, which causes Yuuki to become separated from Mari and Mirai. They start looking for him among the crowd until they find him. After they've reunited, they reach the harbor where the first sea bus has been filled and is ready to depart, so they wait for the next one.

They're fortunate enough to be able to board the second sea bus with another group of people. The coast guard officers try to calm down the remaining people that weren't able to get on, but one man tries to jump on the sea bus as it leaves the harbor. However, he doesn't make it and falls into the water and swims over to the rescue boat. Afterwards, Mirai calls Mari shrewd for pretending to be their mother so she could get on the boat, too. Mari replies that she's gotten stronger ever since her husband died, as she had to make sure to raise her daughter well by herself.

Up ahead, they notice that the Rainbow Bridge is still on fire. However, before the fire can be put out, the entire bridge begins to crumble and fall into the water. A huge tidal wave is created due to the bridge falling, which causes the first sea bus ahead of them to capsize and knock everyone riding it into the water. The wave then reaches the second sea bus that Mari, Mirai and Yuuki are riding, but the sea bus is able to withstand it without capsizing. Afterwards, Mari apologizes for putting them in danger, but Mirai says it's okay and thanks her for protecting them.
