  • Nobody got sent home!

A lot of things have happened during this episode. But before we get to that, Ariane is really making herself back on the fast track. After doing poorly in the first two weeks. She is the oldest one there. And that she is considered an underdog, due to being the oldest. She wins immunity in this one. But the chefs accidentally have to start back to square one. Because a door in the refridgerator was open and ruins the cold food. They have to throw it all out. They are team players. Unlike other seasons past. Even the winners didn't live up to their standards. And Tom comes in, telling the chefs that they won't send anybody home. After the 12 Days of Christmas flap. Seems like they are given to do really little. And felt the judges were a little harsh on them.moreless

    • Hosea: Unless everybody's just serving, like, $100 bills on plates, I'm not going to lose.

    • (after Hosea's porks smokes out the kitchen)
Melissa: Does anyone got any smoke?
Hosea: I do! I've got lots. There's more to come!

    • Fabio: (as he and Stefan sit side by side in an interview) The Euros.
      Stefan: The Dynamic Duo!
Fabio: (Fabio goes on without hearing Stefan) They call us 'The Euros'.
      Stefan: The Dynamic Duo!
Fabio: (confused) What does that mean?

  • NOTES (7)

    • Regular Judge Gail Simmons does not appear in the next few episodes, starting with this one, because of her wedding.

    • The contestants were supposed to have three hours of prep, and then one hour on site the day of the Challenge. But when one of the refrigerators broke down, the producers realized that they could allow those affected two hours on that day to work, and they sent the culinary producers out to shop for them at a local grocery store (not Whole Foods). Radhika's duck breasts were ruined, but the legs were still usable. She didn't want to use them, but ended up doing so, rather than wait for some chicken to be brought to her by the producers.

    • When the contestants arrive and discover one of the refrigerators is warm, they think someone left it open. But according to Lee Anne, all the hot food put inside the night before made the refrigerator burn out as it tried to cope with the heat. This is not a terribly uncommon occurance, and most restaurants cool hot foods in an ice bath before refrigerating, to prevent this, as well as making sure that the product cools quickly enough to prevent the growth of dangerous bacteria.

    • The morning after the Judges' Table, Lee Anne went and talked to the contestants, giving them a pep talk as someone who had been in their shoes. She reminded them that this was a fantastic opportunity for them, and not just because of the prize- how often does a chef in the real world get a panel of experts critiquing their food so that they can improve what they do?

    • Because the front doors of the set were left open during Lee Anne's set up of the Christmas feast display, flies became a real issue. They tried citronella candles, as they had in Puerto Rico, but in the end, they were forced to spray the whole table with Deep Woods Off.

    • When setting up the display table of a Christmas feast, Lee Anne said that they had trouble finding a whole turkey (it being August when they taped, not December), but managed to find one frozen one a few hours before they started filming. So they cranked up the temperature in the oven, and basted it with molasses to get the right color on the bird in time.

    • According to Lee Anne, no one was sent home due to the refrigeration issue. Several chefs were severely handicapped by loss of ingredients, and the contestants didn't have a level playing field for the Judges to rule upon.
