Top Chef: Just Can't Stand the Heat

Well, it's official. Top Chef and I are in a fight. We'll get over it, it's not a deal-breaking fight. But right now I am sour and surly and slightly sad. What was the cause of all this pointy domestic strife? Well, the spoily answer is:

The cheftestants zipped off to an Air Force base this week and cooked a big meal for a lotta people. Some soared, and some crashed and burned.

Top Chef Joins the Air Force

The Air Force! Everyone remembers the Air Force. They're those masters of the sharp, missile-taloned beasts that streak through the air like doomsday. They're the mighty lords and protectors of the very sky, swaddling themselves in clouds and flocks of birds while surreptitiously blowing things the hell up. They are also, as it turns out, just nice people who like to eat food in airplane hangars.

It was a French-themed episode last night, and many struggled with difficult ingredients.

Top Chef Gets Freedom Fried

Everyone has heroes. Sometimes heroes are plumbers. Sometimes they are the older boys who play at the other end of the soccer field. Sometimes they are wizards. Sometimes they might be cats. Heroes come in all different shapes and sizes. But for other chefs! For other chefs their heroes are... other chefs.. And that is what we explored on Top Chef last night. What happens when we confront our heroes? Is there any way to win?

Episode two of Bravo's hit cooking competition brought in a bride and groom.

Top Chef Recap: Crashing the Bachelor Party
Since this season of Top Chef is set in the sand-blasted wasteland that a bunch of conquistador Mafia guys discovered in the 1950s and dubbed Las Vegas, it was inevitable that some sort of wedding-themed challenge would happen. Because lots of people get drunk and lonely in Las Vegas so they decide to marry whatever member of the opposite sex happens to be teetering and leering next to them. At some point in your life, you will get married in Las Vegas. It is bound to happen. You cannot fight that particular moonlight.

Top Chef season 12 celebrates Boston's transition from Beantown to a destination city for fine dining. The season is flavored with celebrity diners, renowned chefs, cultural sites, and newly energized challenges and rules for the competition.

Top Chef: Boston begins with 16 chefs in contention for the title. This season adds sudden death Quickfire challenges that pop up randomly. Each round's challenges take advantage of the city's rich cultural history and local ingredients. Locations will include famous venues, old and new, including visits to Fenway Park and Plimoth Plantation. Guest judges and diners will range from superstar chefs to sports stars and celebrities.

Padma Lakshmi continues as host and judge, along with returning head judge Tom Colicchio. Gail Simmons, and Hugh Acheson continue as judges, and, in a Top Chef first, a former winner – Richard Blais – joins the panel of judges. The Top Chef title includes a feature in Food & Wine magazine, the opportunity for the winner to showcase his or her skills at the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, Colorado, and $125,000 to help turn the winner's culinary dreams into reality. Top Chef is produced by Magical Elves Productions, which Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz serve as executive producers.
