Top Chef

Season 5 Episode 5

Gail's Bridal Shower

Aired Wednesday 10:00 PM Dec 10, 2008 on Bravo

  • Trivia

    • Eugene has trouble making his rice using a digital rice cooker. He should have removed the rice and allowed it to cool after the timer went off, rather than leaving it inside the machine, where the residual heat caused the rice to continue to cook.

  • Quotes

    • Radhika: (as the bottom teams return from the first Judges' Table) Hey guys, what's up?
Eugene: I'm gonna pull down my pants, tell me if I have another ass****. I got ripped a new one!

    • Fabio: (when Tom arrives at the kitchen, because the shower is girls only) Don't come in the room, make me nervous! Colicchio is for me, is like, if you are a priest, and there is the Pope in the room!

    • Fabio: I got married two years ago. I cooked for the bridal shower for my wife. She loved it. Bridal showers are very important, because you don't wanna piss off the bride right before the wedding! So, better do some good food for Gail.

    • Radhika: (as they draw knives) Obviously we're probably gonna be on teams, and I'm thinking, 'Please, don't let me be on Stefan's team!' Like, I would rather be on Satan's team than be on Stefan's team.

    • Jamie: (laughing at Stefan's attempt to get her attention) Stefan, come on! Does the word Lesbian mean anything to you?!

  • Notes

    • Daniel was the first of four chefs to fall to the Top Chef Birthday Curse, being eliminated on or around his birthday.

    • Gail mentioned that she was surprised that Team Blue chose to do Chilean sea bass, because it's politically incorrect to do so. Chilean sea bass has been overfished recently, and is considered endangered in some areas, as well as the albatross that rely on them for their own survival.

    • Gail said that she wasn't immediately thrilled with the idea of having her bridal shower televised as a part of the show. But she thought about it, and decided that since the wedding itself was going to be private, that this would be a great way to preserve the happy memories associated with the occasion for her whole life.

    • Lee Anne prepared seven different sauces for the taste test QuickFire, and each one had at least twenty different ingredients. The seventh, meant to be used in case of a tie, was a sea urchin beurre blanc. The other three not used were a coffee and red wine demi glace, a sauce chasseur, and a sausage gravy.

    • Lee Anne said that the "New" sushi course reminded her of her doomed Asian appetizer trio for the first season's wedding challenge, and that when she mentioned this to Tom as he was trying the dish, he laughed so hard that he almost spit his food out in reaction.

    • This episode was filmed in early August, a few weeks before Gail's wedding. Their honeymoon trip, however, was put off for a few months.
