Episode Summary

EDIT
You would imagine, quite rightly, that Jeremy, James and Richard know very little about lorries. That hasn't stopped each of them buying a second-hand lorry and entering the world of the HGV driver.

Normal service is resumed with Jeremy behind the wheel of a Porsche GT2 and a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4.

The Star in a Reasonably Priced Car is former chat show host Sir Michael Parkinson.moreless

Great episode and start to the new series. This series looks promising and the truck challenge was so funny and great. Parky was cool too and he suprised me with how well he did with his lap..moreless

So.. new serie starts and they start with ... not a bang but with lorries and most and the best part of this episode is some crazy things done with lorries like power sliding (what did not worked), some dricing curvy road.. and catching fire or losing cargo on the way up. Oh, you cannot forget the up road test and Oliver - nice to see that car again and Hammond backing off but poor May's piano.. that was cruel. And the end, when they drove into those things.. the prick wall.. that was cruel. But if not think on that, there was so much to laught and it was funny.. a great show.. great episode.moreless
  • What a start to season 12! A fascinating star in the car, Jeremy still hates Porsche, they discover driving a HGV is trucking hard work and for once James wins a challenge! Brilliantmoreless

I can truthfully say that I was thrilled by the first episode of season 12 and it has left me gasping for next Sunday! Not just because I can't wait to watch the next episode but because I was literally gasping for breath due to laughing so much. Whoever thought of giving those three lorries is possibly out of their minds, but I am glad they did. It was, of course, inevitable that Clarkson's would catch fire, and May's cake would be ruined, though I didn't expect Hammond to actually lose his car! I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed this challenge, utterly brilliant! Though Clarkson ruining whatever the lap time was for the Porsche was a bit too predictable, we know you don't like Porsche's Jeremy! But the comparison of the two cars was great all the same and I did enjoy them, if not their price tags!

An all round brilliant start to the new season, let's hope that the interview's will all the guests be as good as Parkinson's was. Though with Clarkson's remark about the guest list and the cancellation of Friday Night With Ross it could be a very interesting line up!

Keep up the good work guys, loved it!moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • This series of Top Gear started with good viewing figures. 7 million people watched the show (peaking at 7.6 million), which was a 24.8% share of the available audience.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Jeremy Clarkson: Some say that he sleeps inside out. And that he once had full sex with Russell Brand's answering machine. All we know is he's called the Stig.

    • Jeremy Clarkson: Some say that his favourite all-time tune is 'Forever autumn' by Justin Hayward. And that he has the world's largest collection of pornographic material. All we know is he's not the Stig, but he is the Stig's lorry-driving cousin.

    • Richard Hammond: Earlier, the three of us has used our extensive knowledge of lorrying to buy HGVS and it wasn't going well. Especially for Jeremy who had ended up with a gear lever in his bottom and his truck on fire.

    • James May: After the gear lever had been removed from Jeremy's bottom, we moved on to the next challenge.

    • Jeremy Clarkson: You see I get my milk from the back of a cow, it's much cheaper.
Richard Hammond: The back? That's not milk.

    • Jeremy Clarkson: I absolutely hope James May wakes up in the morning and 10,000 insects are in his underpants.

    • Jeremy Clarkson: What matters to lorry drivers? Murdering prostitutes...

      Richard Hammond:... and fuel consumption.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Jeremy Clarkson: Some say that he sleeps inside out and that he once had full sex with Russell Brand's answering machine. All we know is, he's called the Stig.

In the week this programme was broadcast, Russell Brand had resigned from his Radio 2 programme after he had left lewd messages on the answer machine of veteran actor Andrew Sachs, in which he suggested that he had slept with the actor's granddaughter. This lead to the resignation of the station's Controller Lesley Douglas and a twelve-week suspension for chat show host Jonathan Ross, who was also present with Brand in the studio.

Ross's chat show, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, was pulled from BBC1's schedule.
