Episode Summary

EDIT

Finland has produced some of the finest drivers in both Formula 1 and rallying. James travels to the country and meets Mika Häkkinen to try to find out why this is so. Richard travels farther afield - to Japan - to drive the Toyota iReal which is not so much a car, as a chair with wheels.

This week's challenge is to try and make a second-hand car lap the track faster than a Mitsubishi 300. The (second-hand) car in question is the distinctively unsporty Renault Avantime.

Jeremy finds a new use for a V8 engine; he thinks it will provide a suitable amount of power for a food blender.

Benefiting from the suspension of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Top Gear gives Mark Wahlberg a place to plug stuff and a go in the Reasonably Priced Car.

I thought this episode was a fairly forgettable episode of Top Gear. Hopefully next weeks is better, well it sounds better anyway. Mark Wahlberg was excellent he was entertaining to watch and I think he came across as a really down to earth person. Jeremy's blender was so funny but still it made me feel sick when they drank that brick smoothy. The final challenge was ok but it seemed a bit pointless. Mika was good and funny teaching James how to drive fast. All in all a good episode but I have seen better.moreless
  • A day of a week I expect the most...

    9.0
Oh, I am not much Tv person nor have time to things like that but this is the only thing I watch and sometimes I feel after so horrible Mondays what are like 11 hours work and university for me, I like to come home, power up my recorder and watch last nights Top Gear.. And this episode was a pearl, in my point of view. First the Finland.. as I am part from the neighbor country and we here all love Finn motorsport.. and I think half of my country watch Formula 1 only so that they see Finn to win.. and hear their national anthem (what has same melody than ours).. and I remember the times Häkkinen drive for McLaren.. so it was so funny to see him and May in that rally car.. and I most say, specially May - he has done not so many of that kind of part for Top Gear and he managed it so well.

But then.. the mixer - oh.. I just couldn't believe that they really drank that.. and then that renault being fixed up.. all those crazy things they spent their money and that did not helped at all.. and then the wooden front thing.. what caught fire..

And the list could continue but the point remains - it was a fantastic episode.. lot of fun...moreless
  • Thoroughly enjoyed this episode, from the emphasise on the not so slow Captain Slow and the inventive V8 blender, to the attempts at speeding up a rubbish car.

    9.0
I enjoyed the fact that James May was in virtually every segment of the episode, he sometimes gets left out a little bit, not so in this episode. So far this season he has been anything but slow, from his overtaking of Clarkson to his 163mph on the salt flats to his rally driving! I just wonder how long it will be until he does something to re-establish his title as Captain Slow, though with him driving a supercar round the track in a couple of weeks this may not happen!

Loved the V8 blender, if they weren't so messy and loud I am sure they would catch on immediately!

Mark Whalberg was entertaining enough, but was too aggressive so didn't get a brilliant time. I would be more annoyed by his blatant plugging but he is a very good actor so I can't be.

And of course the attempt to make the car faster was always going to fail, but I loved it all the same. I felt that Clarkson was very restrained for once in POWER which is unusual. Overall enjoyed it a lot, keep it coming...moreless
