Episode Summary

In what sounds suspiciously like a proper motoring item, Jeremy, James and Richard attempt to find the perfect car for a 17 year-old. This involves looking at insurance, accident repairs and most importantly of all for a 17 year-old: the car parking facilities at a music festival. Normal service resumes in Abu Dhabi with Richard, a Lamborghini Murcielago SV and a race between a Bugatti Veyron and a McLaren F1. Stephen Fry is the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.moreless

  • Funny but somewhat lacking. However with such great show, even their lesser episodes are great entertainment.

They go on a quest here to see what car is best for the young people that have recently gotten driving license. Though somewhat a brilliant idea and clearly allows for some great comedy thrills it feels stretched. The thing is that most of the show is about three non-interesting cars, in some of the lamest challenges yet. Driving in the dark in total silence does not make for a good television material for example. Stephen Fry, the guest, was as per usual hilarious and really pulled up the show.

Now the supercars do get their part in an amazing location, Abu Dhabi. Richard goes there and compares three in drag racing. Though wonderfully shot in such great location, it didn't feel interesting. When the presenters go alone somewhere, they somewhat loose their magic as they are at their best when bouncing of one another. So, not a bad show at all, entertaining as always, but it will be quickly forgotten.moreless
  • loving the new series. must watch episode

Did anyone notice stig at the photocopy machine behind Richard Hammond while he was mentioning that insurance costs where cheaper for 17 year old girls. Stig copying his head because he doesnt understand mirrors :)

the 17 year old car choice was a unique challenge. poor May had to bear the brunt of Richard and Jeremy's pranks when they glued the cd player to a hip hop song at top decibels. Superb Abu Dhabi feature by Richard. Stephen Fry doing a 1.50.0 lap in the Liena. Plus he showcases an interesting app on his mobile which gets Jeremy all worked up :)moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Jeremy Clarkson: Some say that last week, he was found locked in a room tied to a chair with German piano wire and that this week, MPs turned him down for the job of Speaker. All we know is, that's three things he has in common with Margaret Beckett.

    • Richard Hammond: [referring to Stig] Actually, I'm quite glad it's him in that car because today, that McLaren is worth £2m. If we do come together, though, he does know the drill: run and meet at the border.

    • Jeremy Clarkson: I didn't see it as a driving test, so much as a confirmation of my excellence.

  • NOTES (2)

    • Jeremy Clarkson: [...this week, MPs turned him down for the job of Speaker. All we know is, that's three things he has in common with Margaret Beckett.]

Margaret Beckett is a British politician, she is the Minister of State for Housing and Planning. In June 2009, she stood for election as Speaker of the House of Commons. The Speaker, who is an elected MP, maintains order during debates in the House.

The Speaker also has the power to discipline any MP who contravenes the rules of the House. He, or she, must also remain non-partisan and renounce all ties with the party for which he or she was originally elected to represent.
