Episode Summary

EDIT
In the seemingly never-ending quest to destroy as many caravans as possible, Richard uses a drag racer to rid Britain's of yet another one. A Nissan Sunny - the car Richard hates more than any other - is also destroyed in the same manner. James May makes his first appearance on 'new' Top Gear: he shows us his Bentley T2 and tells us why it's a nightmare to own. Richard Drives the Bowler Wildcat and declares himself "a driving god!" The Smart Roadster and the McLaren F1 are also featured.

Vinnie Jones in the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.

  • James may, a caravan BBQ, vinnie jones and a supposedly cheap thrills episode

    8.5
This episode really is the start of the top gear as we now know it. It is their attempt at a cheap thrills programme - you can guess how that turned out. a reasonably young looking James may has arrived and immediately shown that he is a blithering idiot like hammond and jeremey. His review is of his own bently. which is so long that he has to park it 7 miles away, which would be fine, if it wasn't his only car. Immediately it is evident at jeremy and james have ,ermm, different views on cars.

One of the most iconic qoutes of the season was also uttered when hammond was put in a tumble drier of a car - the Bowler Wildkat. In a rash moment he could just be heard shouting " I am a driving god".

Jeremy is the only one that attempts to uphold the "cheap thrills" idea. The Smart sports car is descriibed as a responsive fashion statement, that is a "giggle" to drive. The car is let down by the fact that it has no boot, a poor sequential gear box and a very small engine.

The interview is reasonably good, with vinnie jones. A few funny stories are told and thankfully nothing is plugged.

Hammond has a BBQ using a Dragster and a caravan.moreless
