Episode Summary

EDIT

There is a BMW frenzy on the Isle of Man. The boys drive the new M3 CSL and some BMW classics: the M1 - BMW's one-and-only mid-engined car to date - the M5 Series 2 and the classic M3.

Also on the Isle of Man, three sporty convertibles are driven and the lads squabble over which is the best: the BMW Z4 championed by Richard, the Porsche Boxster by James and the Honda S2000 by Jeremy.

The new Stig is introduced and Stephen Fry is the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.

Ok, so I'm slightly biast with this particular episode for a couple of reasons, 1. I live on the Isle of Man 2. I'm a BMW fan 3. They used my mates M3 and M5.

Clarkson's wife is Manx and he has a house on the Isle of Man. Richard Hammond just did'nt want to hand the keys back to Tim's E30 M3 and Captain Slow loved the Manx kippers. Three very different presenters and that's why the program works so well. For the shoot the Isle of Man Government tourist department closed the mountain roads especially for Top Gear to film the whole event, no speed limits, fantastic scenery, even better roads to push the cars to their limit over the mountain TT course. Where else but the Isle of Man??!!

The cars were the stars too and Hammond termed it 'Top Gears fantasy Island' - The Isle of Man is no nanny state, not a member of the EU and has it's own government so doesn't have to listen to Tony Blair (then PM). The show was a real BMW special and featured the above cars and a special first on the new M3 CSL, the sound this car made was truely awesome.

The M5 smoked the tyres on a tight uphill hairpin which was great to watch with the owner Rich as this was the first time they'd seen the footage so Rich was delighted to see smoke coming off his tyres!!!! The Top Gear presenters were really approachable and friendly guys - Clarkson runs the whole show that was clear to see first hand!

    Cheers
