Episode Summary

EDIT

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo S is tested in Cyprus against of all things, a Red Devil - a member of the R.A.F.'s freefall parachute display team. With the help of an interior designer, Jeremy gives the Mercedes S Class a make-over with a rather unusual 'retro-look'.

The new S Class is tested, the BMW Z4M shows what it can do on the Top Gear track as does the Koenigsegg CCX - this time with a new 'Top Gear' rear wing designed not to kill the Stig.

Ewan McGregor is the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.

  • They never cease to impress.

    9.5
Again, it isn't just about the cars. There has to be at least a giggle for every different part, although as usual, there's plenty more than that.

Then it is also about cars... the new BMW Z4 M does pretty well on the track although they do reckon it is uninteresting to drive in the real world.

Jeremy examines the new Mercedes S Class making everyone laugh about technology might appear on normal cars in 10 years. It's interiors make way to another great moment when they redesign the interior of an older Mercedes S Class... absolutely crazy.

Richard's race in the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S doesn't yet reverse the stream of results of the cars vs. people features.

The return of the Koenigsegg CCX to the Top Gear track and Ewan McGregor's performance in the reasonably priced car is the icing on top of the cake, specially taking into consideration that Ewan loves bikes and drives a Toyota Prius. It's almost to easy to guess what comes out of it.

  • A magnificant episode that sees among other things, Jeremy reviewing the new S-Class Mercedes and Richard in a race against a flying man.

    9.8
Only on Top Gear can you expect to see the unexpected and this episode was no different. First we see Richard hooning around the track in a Porsche Boxter. YAWN. But then out of the blue comes the brand new BMW Z4M. It looked sensational and very aggresive and once Hammond tamed the wild beast, handled like a sports car should. I very informative review was wound up with Richard trying one of the hottest chillies in the world. Very funny.

Richard also looks at the Porsche Cayene Turbo. He races it against a Red Devil from the R.A.F. The race was a good one but the most enjoyment came when Jeremy and Richard were doing there conclusion. Jeremy sought of mention that something happened to the Porsche when the cameras were turned off. I won't spoil it for you but it is ammusing.

Jeremy introduces us to the new Mercedes S-Class. It is definatly a technology tour de force and had me salivating at the thought of owning one even though I had a little annoying voice telling me that it will never happen. I wish I could shut that voice up for a bit so it could let me dream. Jeremy also takes it upon himself to redesign the interior of an old S-Class Mercedes and turn it into Ann Hathoways Cottage. You will laugh when you see what argument Jeremy and the interior designer get into.

Finally, Ewan McGregor is the star in a reasonably priced car and was a very funny interview discussing many topics including motorbikes which Jeremy hates and even worse, Ewan owns a Toyota Prius. The horror.

The Stig also takes the Koenigsegg CCX around the track again, with the Top Gear wing and it proves astonishing.

I loved this episode as I do most but this was so jamb-packed that the hour flew.

    Overall 9.8/10moreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Koenigsegg claims the improved time wasn't due to the wing!

In June 2006, Swedish car magazine Bilsport published an on-line article where Koenigsegg spokesman Lotta de Salvatore claimed that the lap time was not due to the rear wing (as Jeremy claimed). Instead, a better chassis set-up had allowed the Stig to improve the Koenigsegg CCX's lap time by 2.8 seconds. The article stated: "The reason the Stig went off the first time was that we hadn't had time to set the car up properly, it was over-steering slightly. For the second attempt, the CCX had a perfect set-up and better grip. The wing doesn't do any good at the speeds seen on the Top Gear track, only above 300 km/h does it start helping".

    • In Series 8 Episode 1, the Stig was quoted as saying that if the Koenigsegg CCX had a rear spoiler to create down force on the rear of the car, the car would be around 4 seconds faster on the track.

The new Koenigsegg CCX (with the 'Top Gear Wing') was 2.8 seconds faster and managed to beat the Zonda F by just under 1 second.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Richard Hammond: Some say his ears have a Paisley lining. And he's been banned from the Chelsea Flower Show. All we know is he's called the Stig.

    • Jeremy Clarkson: Tests have shown that in an S Class your heart beats 5 or 6 fewer times a minute then it does in, say, a BMW. So if you buy one of these you'll live longer.

    • Richard Hammond: [referring to the Red Devil skydiver] Now obviously he will have to open the chute at some point, otherwise he'll just fall to earth like a... well like a man dressed as a flying squirrel.
