    • QUOTES (1)

      • Jimmy Saville (wise man): Hey, hey, hey! Now listen, listen to me carefully. I said twenty years ago that we were here to stay and I was right okay? So I'm telling you book your seats now! Book your seats now for the year 2002 for the 2000th edition of Top of the Pops and we'll still be around!

    • NOTES (3)

      • Technological Breakthrough: This edition coincided with the first stereo broadcast of BBC Radio 1 on it's new FM frequency. To mark the occasion Radio 1 simulcast the sound for this show enabling viewers with suitable radio sets to hear the entire broadcast in stereo. This therefore would make this the first UK television broadcast ever made available in stereo 5 years before 'Nicam' Stereo was launched.

      • 1000!: Officially (but not necessarily accurately) the 1000th episode of Top of the Pops.

      • Record Breakers: Longest ever Top of the Pops edition. Most performances in one show. Most presenters in one show (all yet to be beaten in February 2006)
