I don't see anyone talking about when it'll air in Canada. It looks like Space is going to be airing it starting on July 9 at 6:00 Pacific / 9:00 Eastern. (Though my tv guide is saying it'll air from 6:10-7:20, so you might want to check what you set your PVR/VCR for.)

I've said this on other sites but does anyone else think it is beyond sad and pathetic that BBC are waiting almost a week after TORCHWOOD debuts in America,Canada and Australia before they show it. Personally I think they deliberately left it so long so they can say "Oh well not enough people watched it to warrant renewal so we can cancel it now". I say that because in this modern world anyone in the U.K. who actually wants to see it before the ridiculously delayed BBC debut can get it with even a dial-up internet connection, Why don't BBC just admit they don't want TORCHWOOD anymore and let STARZ and networks who actually want it to run things without BBC having any involvement.

If you want a sneak peek at what the UK version of the episode will be like, apparently Space Channel (in Canada) is airing the UK version of the episodes on Saturdays and the American versions on Tuesdays. I'm not sure how different they'll be, but the Tuesday airings are supposedly 5 minutes shorter. The Saturday airing tonight was over an hour long (including the promo for upcoming episodes), and the commercial breaks seemed shorter than usual, so maybe the American version is cutting a lot out.

All in all, it was OK

Not great, but not too bad.

I won't include any spoilers, but I guess they did a good of a job as they could with the whole "introduction" part of the show. They tried to make it accessible to people that haven't seen Torchwood before while still making it enjoyable for those you have.

There are obviously some differences, including a very "American" moment towards the end.

Honestly, if I wasn't already a Torchwood fan I might not have enjoyed it enough to continue watching. The whole mystery of what's happening is catching my attention well enough and a few twists were nice. If I wasn't a fan of Torchwood already though, then there's a solid chance I wouldn't watch the show... save for the fact that it's the summer and there's little on.

Any idea when there's going to be a real thread about the premiere?

This insignificant gripe that UK torchwood fans have is just childish and immature selfishness, especially when you consider this new partnership with Starz has given torchwood producers a much bigger budget to work with.

(Besides, even though it was aired in the US first, I still managed to watch it at the same time myself while based in the UK. [You gotta love the internet lol] ) That being said, if this partnership didn't happen, I very much doubt this show would have been resurrected because without the financial means to pull off a new season that could top the last (children of earth) what would be the point? Shows, especially sci-fi shows, need to always improve on the previous season, this is written in creative stone. Anything less and your just digging your own grave from an executives perspective. So with all that said, the US and UK partnership in this case has saved one of my own personal favourite shows and probably for more than just one season too. Having it aired a week later, well, that's just a small price to pay considering the alternative..i.e. NOTHING! And besides, any fan who really can't wait for a week, (just like me) only has to use their savvy to find and watch it online.

No complaints from me and BTW, the first episode was pretty cool. I can't wait to see 'rendition' episode two.

Clearly the evidence is mounting that the Americans also like dreadful telly.

Eh, I thought it was alright... not stellar but it but not bad. Then again it had to serve as an introduction episode for the Americans that have no idea what Torchwood is.

What I find disappointing is that I'd expect more from either BBC or STARZ, as for those not "in the know" STARZ is actually a great channel with some decent quality stuff. So I thought something involving a little bit of the two would be better.

In any case, it's at least something to watch over the summer.
