The Categories Of Life was a superb episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day. I really enjoyed watching this episode because there was a lot of action as the gang infiltrated various sites to expose PhiCorp. The team really operated well together and they all made some shocking discoveries. There were also of course some profound revelations, and I wonder if Oswald's words were his own, some one else's or a mixture. Gwen and Rex both come to the same conclusion or discovery as Vera suffers a horrible fate at the hands of a madman. This once again scares me to think about unending life and what that would do to the masses of the world. It also brings up a good point as to the new power structure that the world would need and how far governments would go to maintain authority. I want to find out more so I look forward to watching the next episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day!!!!!!!

  • Time to wrap it up.

This episode was so tedious that I ended up fast forwarding through this episode for the last 30 minutes. The characters are getting worse as this story goes on. How many cliche sexist comments can that damn camp head fit into one sentence? That didn't make me like him less; it made me disgusted with the script writer's complete lack of nuance. Esther's character is hard enough to deal with in every episode without the writer's cramming more hackneyed characters in the mix. On top of that, the story is just dragging to the point that I don't really care what's causing the "miracle" any more. This show worked much better with one hour story arcs. Even Children of Earth was pushing its luck as a mini series, and clearly Russell Davies didn't learn anything about developing a serial in the process.moreless

    • While Rex Matheson is recording, we get to see through the viewer the battery and time left to record. When he starts, the battery is at 54 minutes and the tape is 1 hour 23 minutes. After he goes outside and continues to record for awhile, we again see the timers again and they are still the same (54 minutes battery and 1 hour 23 minutes on the tape). Yet, more than a minute has passed.

  • QUOTES (9)

    • Andy: It might be chaos but at least it works.
      Gwen
: Andy, don't be so thick.
      Andy
: Well, it's nice to have you back.

    • Maloney: This is my first tour but I think we might Dr. Vera Juarez: get some important people wanting to visit, you know?
      Vera
      : Hmm.
      Maloney
: I've got a line on Hilary I'm feeling really good about.
      Vera
      : Hilary Clinton?
      Maloney
      : Nah, Hilary Duff.

    • Maloney: Ah, look at you. You're thin as a twig. Bet you'd snap easily.
      Vera: I'm getting there, yeah.

    • Gwen: Who's with Anwen?
Rhys: No one. I left her with petrol and a cigarette lighter.

    • Gwen: I need to move a patient. It's urgent.
Lieutenant: Then you really need to speak to one of the care workers over there. They can tell you how to process your claim.
Gwen: It's not a claim. I haven't bumped my car. We're talking about my father.

    • Gwen: Bloody categories. All the things I fought with Torchwood and what stops me? Red tape.
Rhys: We'll find another way, Gwen.
Gwen: Yes, and I'll tell you what it is. We're gonna break in here, we're going to find my father, and we're going to get him out. Tonight.

    • Vera: So this name, Torchwood. You're like investigators?
      Jack: More like freedom fighters.
Vera: That makes you sound like terrorists.

    • Rex: Look, Torchwood's gone, okay? It's just a name these days. Just kind of works as a codeword to connect us, that's all.
Vera: So am I Torchwood now?
      Jack: Welcome aboard.
Vera: Not sure if that's good or bad.

    • Jack: All I get is a kiss?
Esther: You look after yourself. You're unique. You're category Jack. So don't you go getting into trouble.
