This episode is based on Hamburger Hill in which 56 Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division were killed and over 420 wounded in the Six day battle. The Americans abandoned the Hill two days after leaving the NVA in sole position of it.

This episode "The Hill" takes place before January, 1968, (start of Season 2) but after Captain Wallace's death, which we know to be 9th December 1967.
Episode inspired by the battle of Hamburger Hill in 1969 in which 70 Soldiers were killed and 372 wounded, the debate was wheter the hill was worth the lives of that many soldiers.
