Episode Summary

EDIT
Megatron believes that the key to a Decepticon victory lies in the North Pole, but, quite suddenly, not just via a new energy scheme. The brilliant, frozen Skyfire awaits, and it turns out he has been there for millions of years. It also turns out that he and Starscream shared something of a friendship in the past, something he unfortunately hasn't forgotten. Now, the Autobots face Skyfire and the results aren't pretty. It seems like Megatron's victory is assured, but the key to convincing Skyfire of the truth involves the captured Spike and Sparkplug.moreless

  • Skyfire is the most awful character ever. I hate him so very much. The flashback sequence with Starscream and Skyfire was the only worthwhile part.

    4.0
The aforementioned flashback sequence had one amazing flub: Starscream is a jet 4 million years before he was ever converted to one. Pretty lazy job by the animators considering they already had a template for him from the pilot episode. This episode introduced Skyfire, but was aired after the Ultimate Doom trilogy in which he was also featured. In Japan, The Ultimate Doom was the season finale but was played after Countdown to Extinction which also makes no sense since that was the episode featuring events that occurred after The Ultimate Doom. Pretty stupid. Skyfire also lacks the coordination to not crash into the crystals that he is destroying at the end of the episode which is even more stupid. Quite frankly, I was happy that he crashed.

This episode featured a cool fight sequence between Optimus and Megatron at the North Pole. Unfortunately, a true fan of the show is obligated to see this episode which is really a shame.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (13)

    • Goof: When the Optimus Prime/Megatron battle ends when they're using shards of the green crystal, Optimus' crystal is lacking the green color when he spins it to take down Megatron.

    • Goof: When the Autobots cheer Skyfire after he defeats Starscream before crashing into the ground, Optimus Prime's truck body is colored blue instead of red.

    • Goofs: Even though Spike fell into the icy water, at no time was he in danger of getting a severe case of frostbite. With his clothes soaked and the freezing temperatures, this most certainly should have happened.

    • Both Spike and his father's lips move even though only Spike's voice is heard on the first sentence (20:46).

    • Skyfire is shown again with a red Decepticon logo (17:42).

    • Optimus is shown originally how he entered the cave like, without his trailer even though he just had it a second ago (13:51).

    • Optimus trailer does not show his Autobot logo (13:47).

    • Optimus Prime enters the cave without his trailer (13:10). Later he is seen in the cave with his trailer (13:38).

    • Skyfire displays a red Decepticon logo on various takes on this episode (7:32), (10:51), (11:02), (11:11), (11:24) and (11:28). The one initally given by Megatron and Starscream was blue.

    • Skyfire displays a red Decepticon logo on his chest even though at this point on the episode he has not been given one yet (7:30).

    • Jazz is missing his blue tone color from the hood and his Transformer's insignia (4:48).

    • Given the fact that the Ark crashed somewhere on North America, how exactly did the Autobots plan on driving to the Arctic Circle? I don't care how cold it is, the small islands running between Canada's Yukon & Northwest Territories and the Arctic will never have any sort of solid link between them.

    • Notice while Megatron and Starscream are viewing Skyfire's memories, Starscream transforms to his Earth-style jet form but it should be the same jet form that Thundercracker and Skywarp have at the beginning of More Than Meets the Eyes.

  • QUOTES (0)

  • NOTES (6)

    • In this episode, Optimus Prime uses his trailer turning it in the "Combat deck" to take down the Decepticons jets.

    • You can see Optimus Prime without his trailer in the tunnels, this is probably that the trailer is too high for the tunnels.

    • This is the first time that the Autobot and Decepticon symbols were considered as differences between two fractions. This is interesting because there will be many times in the show ,when some character couldn't recognize a Transformer in disguise ,even though his fraction symbol was clearly visible.

    • Skyfire's cartoon appearance is drastically different than his toy's. The reason for this is because Jetfire was, at the time, a "borrowed" mold of a previously released toy from the rival company Bandi. To avoid unnecessary legalities, the Skyfire cartoon sketches were heavily modified.

    • First appearance of Skyfire. Who is known as Jetfire, as a toy.

    • This is set before Fire On The Mountain which is also set before The Ultimate Doom.
