Can't consider that a "win" for anybody, whether it's the comic version or animated. Both wind up the same way: both guys having to be carried off the battlefield. At best, I'd call that a draw. The only reason anyone could consider it a "win" for Prime, was because the battle served to break the will of the Decepticons as a whole, and stopped their assault. But for just Prime and Megatron, it's just a double-KO.
I don't know about other series but in G1 it seems pretty obvious that Megatron is the stronger of the two. In their final confrontation, Optimus ended up dead and Megatron survived - that alone answers the question pretty well.
I'm not sure where all this talk about them two being the strongest of their factions comes from either... I can't remember their names but those bases in season three that turned into a giant robot and a tyranasaurus are obviously more powerful than both. Megatron's only battle technique against his tyranasaurus servant would be to cower on the floor and beg for his life.
The poll was maded to compared both: Optimus Prime and Megatron. Doesn´t the title says it clearly? O.o
1- Megatron survived, yeah, enough to be dropped and saved by Unicron. Optimus Prime survived until he gave the Matrix to Ultra Magnus. Megatron may suffered less damages as optimus, because Optimus used his bare hands and Megatron used his cannon, an sword, Hot Rod as a xhield and a laser pistol... but wasn´t enough to defeat Optimus. Isn´t it clearly? Like in ALMOST ALL their encounters, Optimus won.
2-Those two were Fortress Maximus and Scorponok. If you were a true Transformer G1 fan, you should knew it.

It's more likely he was referring to Metroplex and Trypticon.
Optimus Prime can kick Megatron's tin-plated butt any day of the week!

Prime did not break the will of the Decepticons. That retreat was all about Starscream, as soon as he saw Megatron fall he saw his chance to be the leader and ordered the retreat to get away and leave Megatron to the mercy of the autobots. Megatron would not have died had Starscream not tossed him out of Astrotrain to lighten the load, he was injured yes, but not beyond repair....Prime was fatally wounded.
Megatron is the strongest, those who are true G1 fans will remember Megatron's tech specs.....'No known weaknesses'. The reason Optimus Prime was able to beat Megatron so easily in the G1 series all the time is because Megatron always ordered a retreat at the slightest show of resistance by the autobots, even sometimes when the decepticons still had the advantage....it was his personality flaw, he was a bully basically...otherwise there were several occasions where the decepticons would've won outright
