  • Chevy Corvette "Transformable".

    9.0
A good episode with Trackas as the main protagonist. Tracks is a 70´s-80´s Chevy Corvette. Raul isn't the greatest human buddy, though his wise-crackin' attitude at least breaks up the monotony of the milquetoast Spike, Carly and Chip. The animators at Toei most likely never visited New York City. The Engrish decorating the buildings is beyond ridiculous and about 80% of them work in the word "Victoria" for some reason. Oh, and I think there was an "Abba" concert going on near the Chrysler Building, though that might've been more Engrish. Overall, Megatron's plot made more sense than usual (build some drone warriors) and the dynamic between Tracks and Raul carried the pace nicely.moreless
  • Tracks, with help from a new friend, attempts to take down an urban car thief ring.

Hi, welcome to Roy Stantz's review show, and today, I review Transformers episode "Make Tracks".

It's a dark and gloomy night in New York City, and car thieves are about. Two of them strike gold in spotting a blue Chevy Corvette (carrying a red and silver radio), and take it to a chop shop. Suddenly, the Corvette transforms and reveals that he is none other than the Autobot Tracks! The thieves try to get away, but the radio transforms into Blaster, who apprehends the punks. The chop shop owner tries to escape but is stopped by Optimus Prime and the police.

The three Autobots drive back to Sparkplug's garage, which now has an extra room modelled after the interior of the Ark. Tracks claims that he like New York (prompting some witty banter between Hoist and Huffer), and decides to go off for a ride.

Once outside in vehicle mode, Tracks is attacked by car thieves who shoot out his tires, causing him to crash hood-first into a lampost, leaving Tracks unable to transform. Soon after, a Hispanic teenage street punk spots Tracks, thinking that he's an ordinary car, and takes it back to his garage.

At his garage, the boy claims that Tracks belongs to him, but the Autobot narcissist raises his voice, causing the boy to jump and wonder in surprise that the car talked. Tracks asks the boy to fix him. The boy, who introduces himself as Raoul, mentions that once he finishes, he's handing Tracks over to the Ghettis Brothers, because he promised them a car by midnight. As soon as Raoul gets to work, he opens Tracks' hood, snips the main cable to Tracks' computer brain, then shortly reconnects it, and gets to work on repairing Tracks' hood and getting him new tires.

Meanwhile, the other Autobots are partolling the rest of New York, such as Seapray stopping some yobs from polluting the New York river. As Powerglide flies over the city, Prime tells him to radio in if he spots any Decepticons - or Tracks. Also, Huffer and Hoist clean up a traffic jam.

Meanwhile, Raoul finishes repairs on Tracks, but is beginning to have second thoughts of turning him over to the Ghettis Brothers. A strange friendship develops between Raoul and Tracks, but the Ghettis Brothers show up and rough up Raoul, demanding the car he promised them. Tracks saves Raoul, then they chase the Ghettis Brothers all the way to a warehouse on the Hudson River. After hearing one of the Ghettis Brothers say "I thought those robots were on our side!", Tracks comes to the conclusion that the Ghettis Brothers are stealing cars for the Decepticons. Tracks and Raoul follow the Ghettis Brothers and their thugs, who are transporting a fleet of stolen cars across the Hudson and towards the New Jersey Pine Barrens.

Back in the city, Powerglide and Cosmos spot Starscream and chase him into a shopping centre, but the Decepticon air-space commander gives his two Autobot foes the slip. But Powerglide finds out that Starscream was heading southwest.

At the Pine Barrens, Tracks and Raoul discover the Ghettis Brothers and their goons bringing the cars to a secret Decepticon factory, where the Decepticons alter the cars. Tracks tries by go undercover to find out more, but his main cable disconnects again. Raoul coaxes the Decepticons by telling them that Tracks is armed with a bomb. Megatron believes the story, Raoul reconnects Tracks' cable, and the duo quickly escape with Rumble and Ravage on their tail. Just when it looks like the end for Tracks and Raoul, Jazz, Bumblebee, and Sideswipe show up and scare off the two Decepticon cassettes. Tracks then introduces Raoul to his friends.

Back at Sparkplug's garage, Teletran-1 tells the Autobots that the Decepticon cars (that can now transform into battle drones) have stormed the city.

Tracks, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, and Inferno tackle the first lot in Times Square; Ironhide, Huffer, and Windcharger destroy the second lot in Central Park; and Optimus, Blaster, and Ratchet, after taking down the third lot on the Brooklyn Bridge, discover that the drones must be remote-controlled. Blaster eventually disrupts the transmission with a jamming frequency.

The Autobots then head out to the Pine Barrens and attack the Decepticons' factory. During the skirmish, Megatron holds Raoul hostage, but the street punk thinks fast by spraying graffiti into the Decepticon leader's main circuit board. As the Decepticons retreat, Tracks destroys the factory with one well-aimed blast, forcing the drones to transform back into their original car forms.

Back at Sparkplug's garage, Prime tells Sparkplug, Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Ratchet to reconvert the stolen cars so that they may be returned to their rightful owners. Raoul attempts to sneak away, but Tracks puts his new friend to work as punishment for stealing cars in the first place.

Not an awful episode, and a decent spotlight for Tracks. Raoul isn't the greatest human buddy, though his wise-crackin' attitude at least breaks up the monotony of the milquetoast Spike, Sparkplug, Carly, and Chip. Tracks is basically a carbon copy of Sunstreaker, who never got any characterization in the series (although he did get his chance to shine in the Marvel UK comic story "Perchance to Dream"), so I rather wish it was Sunstreaker here instead of Tracks. The New York of this episode is a dark, gritty, and dangerous place. Okay, so it's not quite Batman's Gotham, but it's a far cry from the cheery-looking place we saw in "City Of Steel". One of the funniest things I noticed was the theatre the Ghettis Brothers drive past is showing "The Transformers: The Movie". Overall, Megatron's plot made more sense than usual (build some drone warriors) and the dynamic between Tracks and Raul carried the pace nicely.moreless
