Episode Summary

EDIT

The recent defeat has not dampened Starscream and the Combaticons' resolve, which spells bad news for everyone else. They tamper with the space bridge to bring Earth and the sun a lot closer together. All is indeed going well for Starscream, until the Combaticons start thinking for themselves. With Cybertron soon also in danger, a battle royal involving Optimus, Megatron and Bruticus awaits. Meanwhile, chaos on Earth leaves the Protectobots with their hands full.

  • Revenge of the Combaticons

    7.5
It wasn't a very effective banishment, was it? Starscream is brighter than usual in this episode, and it's a good ending for the Decepticons. It's always fun to see Megatron and Optimus join forces and it's nice to see Sidesweep back too with a (small of course) slice of the action. 7.5/10
  • Best episode of the first 2 seasons, and one of the best ever. Cybertron, Shockwave, Bruticus, the Combaticons, the Protectobots, and Insecticons all make an appearance, plus Optimus Prime and Megatron team up.moreless

There is really so much that happens in this episode it is just too much to list. We get to see Starscream in all his treacherous glory as he betrays everyone from the Combaticons, to Megatron, to Shockwave, whom he shoots in the back. Starscream has never been as wily a weasel as he is in this episode, which picks up right where Starscream's Brigade left off. One of the themes of this episode is how evil is treacherous and will defeat itself, as the Combaticons want to knock off Megatron, Starscream, and Shockwave, and they likewise fight each other. We get to see the first appearance of the Protectobots, although we don't learn their individual names or their origins - they just show up out of nowhere, like too many Transformers do during season 2. There is a cool battle between Bruticus and Shockwave and his sentinels. Starscream and Shockwave later battle each other when Shockwave states his allegiance to Megatron. Prime shows his great leadership abilities as always, refusing to order the Autobots to engage the Insecticons in battle until all the civilians are evacuated.

As usual, there is the obligatory save the earth from destruction part, but what is great to see here is that Prime and Megatron team up to do it. Although it doesn't make any sense to say that Megatron is in danger by remaining on Earth, since he and the Decepticons could just leave aboard Astrotrain if they wanted to. But of course the Prime - Megatron teamup is short lived, as Megatron fools the Autobots into thinking that they destroyed Bruticus. Bruticus will be back!moreless
