Fans of David Simon's The Wire would be satisfied if the producer's next project, Treme, is half as good as the critically acclaimed HBO show about crime, cops, and corruption in the streets of Baltimore. But if the cast Simon has assembled holds up, Treme could be a contender for Simon's best work.
Listen up all you Wire nerds (myself included), that noise you hear coming across the television newswire today is the sweet sound of quality programming returning to the small screen. HBO has officially picked up the latest series from David Simon, creator of the best television show ever, The Wire.
Producer David Simon has no beef working with people more than once. Simon borrowed a few actors from his HBO show The Wire for the currently airing miniseries Generation Kill, and is borrowing more for his next project.
Actors Wendell Pierce and Clarke Peters, who played Detective William "Bunk" Moreland and Detective Lester Freamon, respectively, on The Wire, have been cast as leads in Treme, says The Hollywood Reporter. Treme is a drama set in New Orleans and focusing on musicians living and rebuilding in the area after Hurricane Katrina.
Pierce, a native of New Orleans, will be the trombone-playing Antoine Batiste, who is struggling to get gigs to support his girlfriend and newborn. Peters, who also previously worked with Simon on The Corner, has been cast as Albert Lambreaux, "a big chief of the White Feather Nation."
