Councilman Oliver Thomas (portrayed by actual former New Orleans politician Oliver Thomas) is arrested for corruption. Having pursued her dream job in New York, Janette (Kim Dickens) decides to return to New Orleans and run her own restaurant. Though life is still hard in New Orleans post-Katrina, the beginning of Jazz Fest eases everyone's hearts and minds.

LaDonna (Khandi Alexander) continues to have difficulty resuming relations with her husband. Meanwhile, Antoine (Wendell Pierce) struggles with leading a band for the first time. Though thrilled to be promoted, Colson (David Morse) begins to realize that he must work more than ever to make enough money.

LaDonna (Khandi Alexander) continues to fight with her husband about working in the bar. Antoine (Wendell Pierce) gets a harsh lesson about poaching crowds from other jazz bands. Davis (Steve Zahn) finally thinks he has someone to add to his prospective record label when he discovers a young rapper.

Sofia (India Ennenga) and Toni (Melissa Leo) finally begin to come to terms with the suicide of Creighton (John Goodman). As they struggle with his death, LaDonna (Khandi Alexander) finds it increasingly difficult to deal with her recent rape and the robbery of her bar.

Lieutenant Colson (David Morse) is forced to make some frivolous arrests to keep the peace. Janette (Kim Dickens) struggles with loneliness as she deals with working in New York City during Mardi Gras. Ladonna (Khandi Alexander) wishes she were celebrating in New Orleans, but remains stuck in Baton Rouge.

Janette (Kim Dickens) is offered a job at celebrity chef Eric Ripert's New York restaurant Le Bernardin. Though it is a dream opportunity, she struggles with leaving New Orleans. Meanwhile, Sofia Bernette (India Ennenga) is offered an internship in the office of City Councilman Oliver Thomas.

Davis (Steve Zahn) and Aunt Mimi (Elizabeth Ashley) finally start their record company. Though he prefers to just play music, Antoine (Wendell Pierce) decides that he must accept a teaching position to pay his bills. Janette (Kim Dickens) finally leaves the restaurant to pursue her dreams in New York.

Crime makes a dramatic return into the lives of the residents of New Orleans. Most seriously, bar owner LaDonna (Khandi Alexander) is robbed at gunpoint in her own bar and later raped by the same man. As horrible as the crime is for her, though, handling the aftermath appears to be even more difficult.

Lieutenant Colson (David Morse) instructs his police officers to show some leeway when it comes to making arrests on Bourbon Street. Janette (Kim Dickens) is enraged by a New York food critic's dismissal of the restaurant scene in New Orleans. LaDonna (Khandi Alexander) tries to figure out a way to drum up business at the bar.

LaDonna (Khandi Alexander) struggles with moving from New Orleans to Baton Rouge so that she can be with her family. Still reeling from the death of Creighton (John Goodman), his daughter decides to take over his blog detailing the tragedies of post-Katrina New Orleans.

The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Creighton (John Goodman) is finally solved when his dead body is found in the river. Davis (Steve Zahn) and Janette (Kim Dickens) enjoy a perfect day together, but their romance faces the challenge of Janette's impending move to New York City.

Creighton (John Goodman) assigns the Kate Chopin book "The Awakening" to his freshman literature class. As the themes of the novel are explored, it becomes apparent that Creighton is about to meet a tragic fate in a similar manner to the protagonist of the book.

The people of New Orleans prepare for the arrival of Fat Tuesday. Janette (Kim Dickens) and Davis (Steve Zahn) enjoy a brief romantic encounter, while Creighton (John Goodman) must decide whether to move back into the main house. Meanwhile, Antoine (Wendell Pierce) traipses through town playing every musical gig he can get.

Creighton prepares to begin writing his novel by setting up an office in his guest house. The search for Daymo (Daryl Williams) ends when the police find a body that Ladonna (Khandi Alexander) identifies as him. Though embarrassed, Antoine (Wendell Pierce) plays music at the airport, ultimately drawing the praise of returning jazz musicians.

Ladonna (Khandi Alexander) comes back to New Orleans from Baton Rouge to attend to her ailing mother. Creighton (John Goodman) picks up his book editor from the airport and is given good news. Antoine (Wendell Pierce) goes back to teaching to make extra money.

Janette (Kim Dickens) enjoys a thrilling day at her restaurant when it is visited by four of New York City's finest chefs. Meanwhile, Creighton (John Goodman) continues to be obsessed with watching YouTube, even though most of what he sees does nothing but anger him.

The people of New Orleans celebrate their first Christmas since Hurricane Katrina. Creighton (John Goodman) explodes with rage against President Bush in response to what he sees as the shabby treatment of the city. Antoine (Wendell Pierce) is forced to travel to Baton Rouge and Houston to make enough money to survive.
