I didn't like this episode, period. Why? Too many unfortunate events in one half-hour period. The first, well, I felt it was kind of overdone; the orphan abandoned and picked up by a kind person, the kind person dying or being killed, and the orphan wanting revenge, or wallowing in angst over it, yada yada. Overused, plain and simple. Then, at the second event, I actually cried a bit. I did feel bad. A good brotherly friend of hers getting shot by the enemy; pretty sad stuff, there. But then came the last part: the burning of the church. That's where the whole thing just plopped into the fire.

That sort of scene is supposed to be SAD! So, why did I feel like cracking up? That's flippin' Excel Saga material right there, THAT'S why. Excel Saga MAKES FUN of that kind of stuff! Usually, laughter means a good thing, people like to laugh. If I'm laughing at something like that, I know it's bad. That was just stupid. At least wait until the next episode to cause her more despair; then it might've had a more pitying effect. I know they were trying to establish a sort of 'she has nowhere to go now' vibe, but they wound up making it funny instead of sad. Crappy plot overall, excellent animation, and Father Nightroad was cool, as always. His antics were pretty much the only thing keeping me from giving this episode's storyline a 1. Go ahead and bash me, but it's my opinion; good luck changing it.moreless

This a pretty good episode as well. It was funny when Abel got there and he looked to see how much money he had and he screamed why always four. That was so funny to me. Okay so the person that was to pick him up was late which was rude of her. Then he went walking around and you could see how bad the city was. People on the street and people getting beat up by cops. What a shame. Abel gets arrested by the cops and he meets our bad guy that we found out wasn't so bad at the end. Finally, Esther comes to pick him up and they go to the church where Abel overhears her and some guy (forgot his name) talkig about killong someone else. She is supposed to be a nun shame on her. But the guy with her gets killed by hte cops that are there for them. Abel and Esther get arrested together. Poor Abel always runnning into trouble. Well it was pretty good episode.moreless

I love this anime series. Each week the story does not fail to produce, and once again I was not disappointed. The fact that the series moves between all types of genres keeps fans watching, and has new fans enthralled. I can't wait to see the rest of the series, and the conclusion to this two-parter.
  • Father Nightroad goes to the City of Blood to find a 'Star' that is supposedly there. He meets Esther, who is beset by several despairing events: the death of her surrogate mother, a murder she commits and is arrested for, and death of a close friend.moreless
