So I watched the pre-air, and im not trying to be prejudice but, did the southern accents bother anyone else? I mean i don't know if I can take an entire season of a cast where EVERYONE speaks with this kind of accent. I almost tore my ears off after 30 minutes!

I didnt like the southern acsents either. Even if the show turns out to be really good I don't know how long I could watch it.

The accent is horrible, but given in consideration all the flaws of the show, it is the least to be worried about.
I watched the pre-air, this show looks plain stupid. I still cannot believe that this was created by Alan Ball, after the magnificent Six Feet Under.

You must not be a fan of The Closer then, eh?

Seriously, though, you'll have to get used to it, I think. The story is set in a backwater Louisiana town. It would probably bother me more if they didn't have the accents, because it would be unrealistic.

I know what you mean, though. My mother-in-law is Georgia-born, and sometimes her accent gets on my nerves.

I haven't see the premier yet - later tonight. But I too hate Southern accents - especially when everyone is using the same fake droll. Accents, no mater the language, always seem so fake. I hope it won't turn me off too much.

They're bad. They certainly don't sound like they're from the same place, much less Louisiana. They are over-the-top, all-over-the-place Southern accents. Tara and Sookie are awful. I guess Bill is supposed to be from the Old South, so I guess that's why he speaks the way he does. Rene is attempting a Cajun accent. The guy who plays Jason did a good job, though.

I agree the guy playin Jason did great Sookie was alright and so was Sam. Tara is one of the one's that bothered me it was WAY over the top. I have a very southern accent so it really bothers me to hear the bad fake ones but I can deal with it because I love the books and I like the show. I don't know what Rene was doing. I couldn't figure out what accent he was going for, just terrible.

O.K. I live in Texas and there isnt just one type of southern accent even in the Bayou. Tara was over the top a little, but I know some people that sound just like her. Considering the guy who plays sookies brother is from Australia, he did good. If they didnt have any accents I would be worried. I loved the gay cook!

I agree. Southern accents are tough to do and easy to go overboard with.

Being from Georgia I got a pretty good chuckle out of the accents. I hate when they try so hard that its over the top.

I dunno I loved the southern accents, it makes the whole atmosphere more redneck and whole doesn't love a naive southern belle?

Southern accents are tough. Actors can easily fall into parody and sound like a bad cartoon.

and I dunno about anyone else but i've personally driven through some little backwoods towns going from Ashville NC to New Orleans where everyone has accents this bad or worse (they are also usually lacking in teeth aswell).

It may be annoying but its not really that far-fetched.

I've only managed to watch a bit of the show and the accents really don't fit in with the Cajun accent I believe they should have. Of course I haven't heard anyone. I left off where Sookie was reading the irritated kids thoughts at the bar.
Having a mom from Louisiana and going there for summer vacation since I was little and being born there, I think they need a dialect coach.

I didn't feel the accents were annoying considering how displaced some of the smaller communities were after Katrina.

I got more of the feeling that accents depended on the region.
And I swear one of Sam's buddies - I think the one with the red-head girlfriend? - has this southern Louisiana accent. I've been down in different regions of the south, so I guess for me I'm used to the sound.

And no, they're not perfect, but it's NOTHING compared to Julia Robert's attempt of an Irish accent in Mary Reilly. Now, THAT'S atrocious.

I LOL-ed at the fact that Anna Paquin is more Rogue in True Blood than she was in X-Men. They even got the "chere" thing included....

You know I thought he was latino too. He seemed to have a heavy latin american accent as though English is his 2nd language. Hey maybe that is what he was going for.
