  • Not particularly accurate

First of all, not everyone is going to agree with any top ten list that is made. So I'm not going to complain that Art Carney's character on the Honeymooners got the number one spot, even though I think several of the others on the list (and even off the list) were far more deserving. Among those I remember (not necessarily in the correct order) making the cut were:

    Howard Borden (Bob Newhart Show)

Fred and Ethel Mertz (I Love Lucy)

Frank and Marie Barone (Everybody Loves Raymond)

Rhoda Morgenstern (The Mary Tyler Moore Show)

    Jack (Will & Grace)

    Gladys Kravitz (Bewitched)

    Steve Urkel (Family Matters)

Lenny and Squiggy (Laverne and Shirley)

    Cosmo Kramer (Seinfeld)

First of all, I think many would agree that Kramer is hands down the epitome of "wacky neighbor" but more importantly, some of these who made the top ten list aren't particularly "wacky" at all. Rhoda, for instance, is a funny character, but not someone that springs to mind when you think wacky. The same goes for the Mertzs and as someone on the show even pointed out, it would make more sense to refer to Lucy as their wacky neighbor. The Barones are a little wacky, but they are also part of the lead character's family and I don't know that I would classify them as wacky neighbors.

Now, all of this would be fine except that I feel they left out some of the best wacky neighbors of all- Newhart's Larry, Daryl, and Daryl. Those guys were extremely "wacky" neighbors, far more so than Rhoda, Fred, Ethel, Frank, Marie, and even Howard Borden. This is a pretty serious omission.

Anyway, that being said, the program was still entertaining enough so I guess I can shut up now.
