  • Laura's killer finally revealed

    9.6
This was one of the most shocking episodes ever, and that is saying a lot. There are numerous unexpected major plot twists that seem to pile up as the episode progresses. Laura's killer is finally revealed at the end in one of the most frightening and disturbing sequences I have ever seen and heard on tv. When I first saw this episode, I was shocked in a good way that the writers revealed the identity of her killer so early on in the second season. It really came out of nowhere, although there are little hints dropped at the beginning of this episode once Cooper, Truman, and Hawk recover Laura's secret diary. Plus, 2 characters die. The Giant, the Log Lady, and Bob all make appearances that really increase the tension and suspense, as well as freak the audience out.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • This episode takes place on: Thursday, March 9.

    • When David Lynch visits the chat rooms at DavidLynch.com, he always types in all capital letters, as if simulating the LOUD speaking voice of his Gordon Cole character.

    • *WARNING: SPOILER INFO*

The murder scene was filmed three times (Much to the dismay of Sheryl Lee!) to protect the secret of who killed Laura Palmer from leaking to the public.

It was shot once with Richard Beymer (Ben Horne) as the killer, then again with Ray Wise (Leland) and finally with Frank Silva (Killer BOB). David Lynch and Mark Frost had told Richard Beymer that he was NOT the real killer, and he has said in interviews he had a lot of trouble filiming the brutal murder sequence.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Log Lady intro:

A poem as lovely as a tree:

As the night wind blows, the boughs move to and fro.
The rustling, the magic rustling that brings on the dark dream.
The dream of suffering and pain.
Pain for the victim, pain for the inflicter of pain.
A circle of pain, a circle of suffering.
Woe to the ones who behold the pale horse.

    • The Giant: It is happening again. It is happening again.

    • Gordon Cole: HEADIN' ON OVER TO BEND, OREGEON. WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN' GOING ON IN BEND!

  • NOTES (5)

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • The White Horse:
Sarah Palmer has a vision of a white horse shortly before a terrible incident occurs in her house.

This is most likey an alluision to the Book of Revelations in the Holy Bible: "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with him". -- Revelation 6:7
