Twin Peaks

Season 1 Episode 8

Episode Seven "The Last Evening" (1)

Aired Thursday 9:00 PM May 23, 1990 on ABC

  • Trivia

    • The identity of the person who attacked Jacoby is never explicitly revealed but, according to Mark Frost's DVD commentary, it was the same person that killed Laura Palmer.

    • Goof: The necklace Donna discovers in Dr. Jacoby's office has the wrong cord. In the pilot episode, when James and Donna buried James's half of Laura's necklace in the woods, it clearly had a black leather cord instead of a gold chain. The necklace Donna finds in the coconut has a gold chain. Later, in episode 8, when James gives the necklace to Cooper in the police station, it once again has a leather cord. It's Laura's half of the necklace that had the gold chain.

    • Goof: When they are on the police station the boom man can be seen holding the microphone on the reflection on the doors.

    • This episode takes place on: Thursday, March 2.

    • This is the only episode of "Twin Peaks" that was directed by co-creator Mark Frost. However, Frost also directed all of the segments of "Invitation to Love" - the soap opera that is often seen on the character's televisions.

  • Quotes

    • Laura: (On tape) Hey, what's up, doc? Its Laura, in case you haven't guessed. It's Thursday the twenty-third and I'm so bored. Actually, I'm in kind of a weird mood. God, James is sweet, but he's so dumb, and right now I can only take so much of sweet. Hey, remember that mystery man I told you about? Well, if I tell you his name then you're gonna be in trouble. He wouldn't be such a mystery man anymore but you might be history, man. I think a couple of times he's tried to kill me. But guess what? As you know, I sure got off on it. Hmm, isn't sex weird? This guy can really light my F-I-R-E as in red corvette. Uh-oh, here comes mom with milk and cookies.

    • Log Lady intro:

"A drunken man walks in a way that is quite impossible for a sober man to imitate, and vice versa. An evil man has a way, no matter how clever--to the trained eye, his way will show itself."

"Am I being too secretive? No. One can never answer questions at the wrong moment. Life, like music, has a rhythm. This particular song will end with three sharp notes, like deathly drumbeats."

    • Jacques Renault: Bite the bullet, baby. Bite the bullet.

  • Allusions

    • Bobby: You tell him Leo Johnson said to check out James Hurley -- he's an easy rider.

Refers to the movie Easy Rider, in which "Captain America" (Peter Fonda) stashes drugs in the gas tank of his motorcycle, just as Bobby has hidden drugs in James's gas tank.

    • Ben Horne, as he enters Audrey's room at One Eyed Jack's, quotes Shakespeare's The Tempest.
