    • GOOF: Dr Hayward tells Ed that Ed should sing for Nadine and then Doc promises he'll close the door when he leaves the room. However when Nadine wakes up from her coma and the camera zooms away from her and Ed, we can see that the door is wide open.

    • This episode takes place on: Sunday, March 5

    • Shortly before this episode had aired, Pocket Books published The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer, which was penned by Jennifer Lynch, David's daughter. The cover matches the prop used in the series, and in later episodes some actual passages from the book are read or referenced. However, most of the diary entries read on the show were made up by the writing staff.

  • Quotes

    • Log Lady intro:

Letters are symbols. They are building blocks of words which form our languages. Languages help us communicate. Even with complicated languages used by intelligent people, misunderstanding is a common occurrence.

We write things down sometimes--letters, words--hoping they will serve us and those with whom we wish to communicate. Letters and words, calling out for understanding.

    • Albert: While I will admit to a certain cynicism, the fact of the matter is I'm merely a naysayer and hatchet man in the fight against violence. I pride myself in taking a punch and would gladly take another because I choose to live my life in the company of Ghandi and King. My concerns are global. I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love. I love you, Sheriff Truman.

Cooper: Albert's path is strange and difficult one.

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • Jean Renault: Candy is dandy, eh?
Quoting the first line of a famous couplet by Ogden Nash, which reads in full "Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker."

    • Blackie paraphrases Norma Desmond's famous "I'm ready for my close up" line from Sunset Blvd, a film oft alluded to on Twin Peaks.
