It looks like The Apprentice - we are shown the sights of London in the introduction to the programme - and it certainly sounds like the Apprentice - a well-known celebrity-businessman putting his reputation on the line.
Then why does Tycoon fare as the worst 'business-entertainment' show on the box?
Form shows that the BBC have certainly got the monopoly in this genre - more specifically The Apprentice and Dragons' Den - and Peter Jones was good in latter of the two above shows, but he somehow manages to become extremely annoying in Tycoon.
The fault with Tycoon is that it seems that the contestants or 'tycoons' (as they may arguably be called) - seem to do nothing.
Well, that may be a bit too harsh, the 'tycoons' are often on the phone, and it seems that when they are doing something (i.e. being on the phone), the majority of that time is talking to family.
Meanwhile, inbetween seeing the tycoons 'at work', we tend to get Peter Jones about every 5 minutes stating how his personal reputation is on the line, and the fact that it is his own money that he could be gambling away.
It may have something to do with how the show is edited, but it makes me feel that the show is just a platform for Peter Jones to increase his ego.
It is a shame that for a show that followed so closely in the footsteps of the Apprentice and had a lot of potential has turned out to be a waste of an hour (or now just half an hour due to being a ratings flop).
The sooner Peter goes back to Dragons' Den, the better.
Tycoon, you're fired!moreless
