  • Quotes

    • Rafa Benitez: (On Liverpool's 1-0 win against Inter Milan) It shows the quality of the Premier League and especially the quality of the top four. It is important to be in the best eight teams and everyone from the Premier League is in a good position.

    • Bernd Schuster: (On Real Madrid's 2-1 defeat by Roma) Real Madrid fought well against a very well-organised team. We knew it was difficult but we tried to find a way to score. We had no luck tonight. My players did everything they could and I must congratulate them. We had smart opponents in front of us. Some people thought that AS Roma were not serious opponents for Real Madrid but they have shown that was a big mistake. We dominated until going 1-0 down and we could have scored a second goal but it was difficult. Pepe's red card and the injury to Salgado were keys to this match.

    • Luciano Spalletti: (On Roma's 2-1 win in Real Madrid) Real Madrid tried to be the more aggressive but my players didn't allow it. My team played very well and won the match with a great effort. I congratulate them. We came here to win and we did. My team responded perfectly to my instructions. We suffered today but we deserved to go through. Both teams played well and that makes this important victory even more valuable. I am satisfied with all my players. The substitutes were very important tonight because they helped to keep the match in our hands. The team is growing and we have learned a lot in recent games. I always think of our supporters and our president when we win. Good luck to Real Madrid in the Spanish league.

    • Avram Grant: (On Chelsea's 3-0 win against Olympiakos) I'm happy of course. We won, we are in the next round and played good football. The team was very mature. We knew Olympiakos always score away so we knew they were very dangerous.

    • Frank Rijkaard: (On Barcelona's 1-0 win against Celtic) Messi's injury affected the team tonight. He has been injured before and it's a very sad moment. Tomorrow we will get the results of the medical tests and we hope it's not as bad as it looks. The club medical staff are here to help players avoid getting injured and that's what we're all doing. The players' health is the most important thing; Messi was very sad and it's an injury he's had before. Celtic played well tonight and was getting better as the game went on. We started well and scored an early goal. Celtic were playing with confidence and giving us a hard time as usual. Xavi's goal was very good and important, he's a decisive player for us. You can't underestimate your rivals but Messi's injury affected the rest of the substitutes I made during the game, that's why I decided against fielding Bojan.

    • Sir Alex Ferguson: (On Man Utd's 1-0 win against Lyon) Some nervousness came in, because we didn't take the chances and kill the game - so we were on a knife edge. The more important part of it was that we were defending well. The back four were quick to advance on to their opponents, and that made a big difference. Apart from the shot from Keita that hit the post, they didn't really make a chance.

    • Carlo Ancelotti: (after Milan's 2-0 loss to Arsenal) We couldn't have done more. They were far better. I couldn't choose Seedorf and thus I changed the formation to two strikers plus Kaka. Fabregas, Flamini and Hleb made huge pressure on our midfielders, this was the key. We weren't in optimal condition to challenge them.

    • Silvio Berlusconi: (after Milan's 2-0 loss to Arsenal) The Gunners have shown great play and athletic force. For a period in the game, they didn't let us see the ball.

    • Sir Alex Ferguson: (after Man Utd's 1-0 win against Lyon) I suppose there's every chance we will play another English club after Arsenal's win. I expect Chelsea to go through and Liverpool have a great chance as well. It doesn't really matter who you get. They will all be difficult opponents at this stage. The important thing is we are there. For Cristiano Ronaldo to get 30 goals as a wide player is fantastic. No one else in the world would do that. He could end up with a very big tally.

    • Arsene Wenger: (On Arsenal's 2-0 win against Milan) We dominated the game and didn't make any mistakes and we were creative and not scared to go forward. We produced the match we wanted to. I am very proud. It is wonderful for a young team to knockout a team such as AC Milan. It is good for the future.

    • Cesc Fabregas: (On Arsenal's 2-0 win against Milan) This is a dream come true. To win in Milan 2-0, it is amazing. William Gallas said before the game enjoy the atmosphere. That is what we did. But this is just the beginning. We are now in the quarter-finals but we have not done anything. It is just one more step.
